Avast 6.0.1091 Sandbox Conflict
My install would sometimes get an Xtrap, sometimes get *_bute_file (not sure of name) when loading a map, and would not save personal settings.
I added the crossfire exe's to the sandbox exceptions in avast and this elliminated all my problems, using the dropdown to start crossfire normally did not work, good luck.
Btw I had 5 before, which did not have the sandbox and worked fine with crossfire.

For some reason would not let me edit my post, but set all the crossfire exe's to run as administrator and removed them fromv the avast sandbox exception list, but I select start mormally from the avast sandbox dropdown or I get an xtrap error, but no issues so far knock on wood lol, do not know if i was lucky or if either solution works.

Well you wanted to edit your post made @ approx 3 hours after it was made, usually I think it is only editable for about 10 minutes or an hour, I forgot which

Anyways, I tried looking in the common solution's stickied thread, but Avast isn't one of their anti-virus guides. So I am gonna basically tell you you should send a support ticket to Crossfire Tech support explaining the same thing, if not in greater detail.
Sorry I am no use..
