Ah. Why shouldn't we be funding their healthcare and pensions?
I'm sorry for being Swedish, but doing this seems obvious to me. -
Alright, basically during the 50-60s in the U.S. there was a high population of children at once. In the next few years all of these children are turning to the age where they can collect government money, this is causing a huge strain on our monetary flow, which is already hurting from the recession.
However the generation from the 50-60s the "baby boomers" made a large amount of money, often enough to retire without government aid, but they still receive it. -
Hehe.
Okay, so basically the only reason why we have social security and medicare is the after-math of the Great Depression.
It's hard. Everyone looks forward to having social security.
In my opinion, we should eliminate funding similar to social security and unemployment and adopt a laissez-faire economy.
Clearly, the USA's economy is unstable, which means we need CHANGE.
Businesses that FAIL, need to FAIL. It's the natural economic cycle. Obama's plan to "bring them back" is very similar to Roosevelt. But does it help? Yes. Significantly? No. -

it amazes me how the rest of the world stays solvent, when you're so far behind in every aspect.
My country is simply pathetic.
We stick to age old rules and traditions, without moving forward or making innovations in our culture.
It disgusts me to watch the rest of the world go so far ahead, when america has so much potential. -

the social security system will get changes, i doubt it will be removed.
And don't think America is left behind, the euro countries will be struggling in the next few years. -

Some* of the Euro countries. Switzerland, Norway and Sweden is the top 3 countries in the world to live in. -

You're so far behind, its sad.the social security system will get changes, i doubt it will be removed.

We went virtually unaffected through the recession without a single loan, while other economies crashed, as did yours.
Our social security is amazing and always has been.
Let me just grab an example since its fun.
I broke my arm a year ago. I went to the hospital, 30 minutes later it was x-rayed and had a cask. I paid 5 dollars (bad currency conversion, more like 7 dollars actually).
The time it takes me to recover, my employer is prohibited from firing me and is forced to pay me. I also get money from my insurance company. One of my many, mind you, since we're automatically insured from the job, and manually for a small fee both personally and from the union. If my employer would try to fire me, the union would go on strike, and shut the factory down.
I paid a total of 7 dollars for this, not counting the union obviously which is another 7 dollars a month, and insurance which is 30 every three months.
How does social security work in your country?
Oh, yeah, we use SEK. Unaffected by the potential euro collapse. Most countries are actually, since they're keeping their former currency as back-up. Going from the euro isn't harder than going to it, which took a month. -
Turn 55. Get 550 dollars a month.
Pay nothing for healthcare because the younger generation foots out massive taxes to pay for you breaking your hips and getting triple bypasses from eating hundreds of pounds of greasy unhealthy food.
Welcome to America. -

I personally don't mind our taxes, especially not when I look at the state of the rest of the world and can grin with a smug smile.MegalodonSW wrote: »You think America got massive taxes? Sweden do, but we use them in a good way.
we da bestaMoistmuffin wrote: »We tax our taxes.
gg.
We do too. 32% for low-medium income takers, 35% for high income (>$5000 USD a month or something)
25% sales tax on everything we purchase (with money we already taxed ^), excluding live goods (food in restaurants etc) which is 12%. -

you should come to portugal... 13% rate of unemployed, the government has stated that the country will be out if money next month, IMF is here, and most european country's are not sure of they are gonna lend us the money we need, our military forces dont have money to pay the veterans and the military, and all because of the corrupt mother***ers that stole our money and now because of them the people pay...
