Lets put it this way. Anyone who can't kill with a shovel, shouldn't be playing video games. Anyone that uses an axe and thinks he's pro is mistaken. Anyone that uses a knife and pwns, should take a step outside and remind himself what the sun looks like.
I fall under the nolifer category, and QQ at people who use props. -
Does using a Shovel makes you a noob?
I look down on many weapons and i would never use a shovel/axe in a pub. But it's a game and everything in it is meant to be used. Public rooms are public rooms, they are for fun, so use whatever you want. Don't worry what others think.
People will always find something to complain about. If people REALLY wanted a fair/balanced match, they would go to pugs/tournaments/leagues/cups etc. -

I'll get that kukri for as long as I can w/e if it's op... I just want to use a kukri, it's so sexy. -
The reason the shovel is considered a noob weapon is far more complex. It doesn't take less skill to use and doesn't deal as much damage as the axe- the issue is more of a glitch.
With the knife and axe, the animation and the actual hit-time are pretty well synced, which gives players time to avoid being struck by a right hit by knowing with they will be struck. With the shovel, the animation is actually off by a fraction of a second. So you're actually hit and killed before it appears an entire right-click cycle has been completed. This makes it nearly impossible to avoid, as by the time you notice a large swing, the cycle is half-way complete.
It's a completely fixable issue- but nobody really pushes it.
I find it annoying and not as easy to use as the axe.
The whole "noob" thing is really misused with the shovel. -
Axe is better - hs with slash, LOL! And in GM Katana and Knife are the best melee weapons so far (never tried the kukri). Katana since you can bhop or even run while you hold the right button and knife because it's the fastest weapon unless you are using an axe and leftclicking (makes you a noob).

The shovel is absurd. I'm surprised no one mentioned how easy the swing control is on it. You pretty much don't have to worry about the first kill because you're already thinking ahead to the next kill when you have the shovel. The recovery time on the right click is faast. Biggest benefit of playing against shovelers is that a lot of them like to rush because the kills come so easy (see GR spawn at Hakenkreuz). They forget some players can actually aim -_-

So there's the lag animation with the shovel that everybody knows about.
My issue with it is how it swings, it swings horizontally, so basically anyone in front of you and on screen is dead because it covers a larger area, but if you use an axe or a knife, they swing vertically, so only people in the center of your screen is dead.
Not to mention you can hit someone on the toe with the right click and kill them.

No...is not a noob weapon....
People here...in the game....think every weapon ease to use as "noob weapon"...If the weapon is powerfull....dont need skill...say someone!!!!
But look....de advantage of a weapon over another is the objective for all army in the world.....Imagine if the USA wish be a fairly combatant...against Taliban....: What they do? Not use tanks....fighters...drones....for what??? Be nice agains their enemy???
Cmon....If the weapon is powerfull.....buy!!!!! Use!!!!!! And have a fun...This is a game...virtual...irreal.....Lets enjoy the game....
