The FPS increase explained
After the patch Cross Fire was optimized and a lot of people was experiencing higher FPS.
This was partially achieved by the font replaced by a new one which wasn't as CPU intensive,
But the biggest difference was that Cross Fire is now able to run on multiple cores.
Before the patch Cross Fire was running at 50% all the time, 100% load on one core. After the patch it is running at 80% usage, with each core being used ~75%. This increases your CPU usage, but also makes it possible to use your CPU's full processing power.
Since you need two cores to run on two cores (obviously) you need a multi core CPU for this optimization to take effect. If you only got one core you'll most likely still notice a difference because of the other optimizations.
I've only tested this on my 2 core CPU so I'm not sure about the load on quad core CPU's.

This is just a guess, but a qualified one. Thanks for reading!

Edit 2: I got an AMD Phenom X2 550 overclocked to 3.9GHz, but my X4 will hopefully get shipped on monday.
Edit 3: Polleus and apqlwma is awesome, respect.

Took you long to make this.
What we (me and Megalodon) want here us people to post their cpu and fps increase.
He mentioned CF is now runnin' on 2 cores but maybe it's runnin' on all the cores your CPU has.
I'll post my results tomorow evenin' because I haven't yet been able to use my pc.
Btw I have an i7-860 so it's interesting to know what kind of increased I've experienced.
I tried my bro's single core netbook (1.6gHz) and noticed it wasn't laggy anymore and had became playable but his fps hadn't been increased. Menaing the theory could be valid and that the lag free sensation is due to the new font. -
I just tested the multiple core theory.
Those with single core machines, will probably only experience a small increase due to the font change. This font does not have a shadow effect on it and that CAN cause a higher usage of your processor. Now that the font is a "lighter" type, a lot of that processor has been freed up for an increase in performance.
Those with multiple core machines, seem to be having a HUGE increase. The theory is that Cross Fire now runs on multiple cores instead of one. I thought I would test that out, so I moved ALL my running processes to Cores 1 and 2, then assigned Cross Fire to Cores 3 and 4. There was definite core activity on BOTH of them when running Cross Fire.
This is still just a guess, but it's the best explanation there is. It would certainly explain the huge jumps in performance. I maxed out at 130-140 FPS yesterday and today I run a steady 230 FPS in 8v8 rooms. -

Okey, thanks. Looks like my theory was true.

I was writing a 2000 word essay about WW2 at the same time.

I'll edit it in.Thanks for this kinda official info (community believes more MODs than even the regular forumers themselves).
Maybe you could tell us what your cpu is.
Same goes for DS royal
Thanks.Oh brilliant!
Never would have thought of that.
Congrats.

mermm brought my 2 comps long time back, how do we know how many cords we have?
(yeah I suck at computers)
I don't understand that. :P
merrmmm?
Did you mean to write: I bought my two comps long time back, how do we now how many cores we have?"? -
si seinor
I mean yes sir
Control Panel -> System and Security -> System
That's on Win 7, not sure what it is on XP, it was a long time since I used it.
There it says what your CPU is called. You can usually tell by the name how many cores it got. (X2, X3, X4. Core2duo, Core2quad etc) -
nvm about my older post I found out that on this comp its intel core i3 cpu... w.e that means
It means it's ir a recent vaio pc or a a recent cheap desktop.
i3 CPUs are dual cores.
Megalodon why would you care about the exact model it's not as if he had said an i5. i3 are only Dual cores... -
what about my other computer?
Intel core 2 CPU
Even an ignorant person would guess it's a dual core
Come on dudes (and girls) we need somebody with a:
- phenom x3
-i7-860
-Hexacore i7
-Phenom x6
to post. After that our database will be complete and the theory will be prooved (or not). -
You learn stuff about computers by yourself. Dependin' on your level of interest and you're spare time dedicated to researches.
I'm feelin' sleepy (yeah I know it's only 11:45pm) and have to studdy before goin' to school tomorow. Will check this whe I wake up. Hope we'll have all the info needed even though I doubt we'll get an hexacore i7 user to post. -

Haha, I'm considering between choosing a X6 or X4 (30$ difference). I guess I don't really need the extra cores so I'll probably go for the X4 (on 3.2GHz, I'm planning on clocking it 4+, the X6 is on 2.8). After all I only need something that allows me to record until Ivy Bridge comes out.
I'm in a rush right now
gotta study for a test, leaving for basketball, moar study
i gtg nao ~.~
thats why all the grammar and stupidiness comes from, but i also have no clue about comps, and i really wanna learn
You got a dual core with four threads (use google if you want to know what it is). You'll notice a pretty big FPS increase. -

Where do you live? It's 11.48 here. Maybe you live in Sweden? lol.
