Just quick question

I am running crossfire on a paltry 384mb ram(after video card{128mb} takes its bit)

I close all processes including explorer and also have videocard on lowest setting etc.Only running gamesbooster when playing.I have a partition made just for crossfire that has no virus programs etc.So am really looking to strip computer down to the bare minimum of whats required to run crossfire.

My question is on windows properties/advanced/settings/advanced option does anybody know if its good idea to have paging file to maximum setting(1152) or if i should leave it on recommended setting of 573mb to increase gaming performance(fps)?.

Please don't suggest about upgrading computer because unfortunately thats just not possible at moment.

Also if anyone has any other tips would appreciate if you could share them with me.
Example refresh rate hz?

  • How large is your hard drive?

If it's acceptably well sized go ahead and crank that paging file up a bit.

Won't help much, just means it will be reading ram off the hard drive, but it will help to an extent.

My partition is 100gb.So space not problem

In previous thread i made about RAM [GM]hpx said
"Having low ram and a not-so great video card means your computer uses more processing power to draw from other sources (your physical harddrive). You can tell if you wind up randomly losing space on your hard drive or gaining space when you restart your computer."

So i am not sure if its good idea to make it maximum or on recommended settings to reduce processor activity.

The other thing was wondering is.I have the ATI catalyst control centre so i set everything for better performance. But if i close this centre down before playing crossfire.Do the settings remain in the computer or are they only active when the centre is open?

I rock mine at 3 gb normal 4gb under load.

    Never lost HDD space

Not a big deal if you have a 100 gb partition.

Wait why do you have a 100+ gb hdd in that piece of junk? ^^

    (mines almost as bad)

It was actually once a good computer.Owned by a friend of my Ex before he stripped alot of the good bits out of it ie 2gb ram, nvidia processors and offered it to me for free because i accidentally blew my laptop up by putting the speakers adaptor into the laptop power socket (they both looked the same) by accident.BOOM

So it cost me 70euro just so that i had some sort of computer. At that time wasn't playing any games on my computer. Then i discovered crossfire.

Give me an idea of the mobo. Cheap upgrades are easy to come by if you wait patiently.

And I'm curious as to why that would have blown the computer...

    The thing that it destroyed mainly was the internal battery charger.so if i kept putting new batteries in it would carry on working.Then i gave it to man in small computer shop he said he could fix it.The computer never worked again.:-{
  • How many ram slots?

And does it have a Pci-e or a AGP slot?

That's not too bad upgrade wise...

Get a little ram for 20 bucks.

get a video card for...depends on the slot.

2 Ram slots. My problem is i went to highstreet shop some months ago bought 2gb ram it just made constant beep and a blank screen. Then took back to shop and got refund.I took out my DDR PC2 5200 512ram(company swissbit) card and went to many computer shops. They all told me that was one of the first ddr2 cards and it will be difficult for me to find a comptatible ram unless i go to a specialist shop.
Wish i knew what ram card my computer had before.Becuase i get the feeling this dodgy internet shop just put in some old ram card they had lying around.

I downloaded program it says in bios bus type ISA/PCI does that answer question.not entirely sure what all means.

    Thanks for help

    if it is. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001IG3WO6/ref=asc_df_B001IG3WO61296651?smid=A1729W3053T57N&linkCode=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B001IG3WO6&tag=cnet_mp-1455-20

Check whether the ram in your pc is fitting a 240 pin slot.
  • You can close down CCC and MOM.exe in your processor tab it will give you around the 50 a 100 MB more
If you got more processors that you don't know about google what there function is and if it's has nothing to do with windows

    Extra info:
ati2blalba.exe don't close that on of ati it's needed..
    scvhost.exe
and services.exe don't close those to are from windows!
and some others just google them!

P.s srsly save up money and buy a new laptop with the new updates coming your pc will only go slower and slower!

  • No its a desktop. It is the one like in the link.there is a specialist shop here in cologne called k&d when i get some money will just take computer there and ask for 2gb ram and a better video card hopefully less than 100euro.I think that should be good enough for crossfire.I don't play any other games.Except my daughter(4 3/4) likes lego harry potter.lol bless her :)

Well, that is desktop ram, 5200 stuff is expensive.

you can thank Prebuilt store computers for that.

Using cheap second hand non upgradable parts, just to save a few bucks.

Yeah maybe should just leave it as it is.One day get new computer although will be in at least 6 months at earliest.

Are there no other cards comptatible with 5200?

That was a pc I put together a while back.

It's just that 5200 series ram is hard to find, I had to scour the interwebs for that.

Nice. But i really wouldn't know where to start building my own pc.How do you know what parts are compatible with the others?

That's why you have people like me to list the parts for you :P

Most of it is self explanatory, the mother board tells you what parts it can use.

Then you find things that fit with it.

Putting it together is pretty easy. Lots of guides on google.

OH I didn't actually build it, I mean't put together as in, listed the parts for people to use to build their pcs.

he he, this guy taught me how to build pc's and got me interested. took like an hour and 50 posts, ofc my builds are relatively flawed and weak compared to his, for now.

Hehe, just read a lot of benchmarks. It will help a lot.

    Also remember.

Lowest price drop down on tigerdirect = love.

What are the pitfalls of making your own pc's.How can they be flawed?

OT I remember yesterday you came along for the ffa forumers room.

lol yes, i was second fragging too i remember, but i had to leave for a clan war

well u need all your components to match, a hexcore phenom ll cpu would be useless if ur mother board only supports am2, and my main problem is choosing a adequete power supply, to little and ur computer dies, to much and u waste money
theres probably loads more details, but u'll have to ask bella/muffin for those as he is much more educated in this area

They can't be flawed in the sense of unworkable, he means flawed in the sense of not being the best they could be for the price.

The pitfalls are making minor mistakes when putting it together. Forgetting to discharge your static electricity before touching pc parts?

-sizzle shizzzzz sizzle pop crackle siszzzleee- There goes your pc.

But all that is easily avoidable by reading a quick guide, it's hard to make mistakes.

Haha, the power supply is pretty simple, when you get a chance learn the mathmatical equation of ohms law. That will teach you how to calculate the amount of wattage needed to run your pc.

Most components run off the 12v rail of the power supply, therefore the amount of power used by the 12v rail = the amount of power needed to run your fans cpu and gpu etc.

nah its all on me, on another note

This is a personal hobby of mine. :P Building PC's at minimal prices that run most applications efficiently.

Too bad I can never afford my own creations. xD

    Don't suggest a job I'm 15 and busy with school anyway. -.-

^ thats also me, except minus 1 year
