well i have get today some fps drops to zero 1 sec every 10 min or my ping goes crazy up to 350+++ ... i use win7x64 and well i realize that scvhost.exe wich most memory usage spikes up to 50% of cpu usage every 5min.
well i decided to reduce this memory usage so on.

press "winbutton"+"R"
type in "services.msc"
go to with righ click "superfetch" properties. disable it and stop the service
it reduce svchost.exe memory from 80 to 8mb
second one i use wlan so do the same to "network connections" disable and stop it
reboot. voila no spikes anymore.

I had the same problem, but I solved it by setting the problematic svchost to use only one core of my cpu. Never had ram consumption problem.

- Open Task Manger
- click on Procedures tab
- search for problematic svchost (mine was the one dealing with audio, dhcp and a few others) (you can find the bad one while playing by starting the Task Manager)
- right click on it
- Set Affinity
- uncheck CPU 0 (you'll have to do this after every restart. I haven't searched for a permanent set up)
