[Intelligent Discussions] The " "-isms

I didn't say it wasn't either. I <3d it...but if Brazilians hate our "lag" why are they playing it? Obviously they dont enjoy playing with us and we dont enjoy playing with them.
I would just go to D-9 and stay there so they wouldn't have any registry problems.
I'm not telling them to quit...but they would prevent themselves from getting frustrated. -
Good thread SirHi; however, until these social constructs (-isms) are removed from the "real world" it is impossible to remove from the internet. The internet resides in the "real world."

I guess, after playing it for so long, they get used to it, and have fun. Many BRs do play in Delta 9, and as more of them go there, NA players move out. But I don't think the majority of BRs know about D9. I think this was mentioned in that thread made by the BR(forgot his name) a while back, but since they don't have a method of communication, it's hard for them to organize where to play -

Yes, you make a good point. These topics are still in the real world, which may make them harder to abolish in the virtual world. But we have the power to reduce this. Reporting anybody who breaks rules is an option, sending a professional and respectful private message to a moderator if the matter is completely serious is also another way.
Though it is not 100% gone in the real world. Look at racism, it's much better than what it was before [Look at World War II and Racial Segregation]. Now, the world is becoming more united, even though things such as the war over in the Middle East are happening. Face it, the world is just throwing away the fact that humans should be labeled or tagged for what they are. Humans are humans. That's all we need to know. -
CF should start putting announcements in other languages since they broke their own rule...english only...by putting a Portuguese sign up page. That would solve a lot of problems.
They might enjoy it...but we cant with everything they do.
I'm just not gonna bother with them anymore...
Our efforts are useless here since the company never listens to us. We'll just have to deal with the kicking and all that other stuff.
Just for the record, I dont have anything against them in real life. My favorite soccer team is Brazil and I'm almost the same as them when it comes to culture/real life -

By posting and contributing in threads like this, you are helping out. Maybe not, but maybe, intelligent, mature discussions such as this will eventually lead to a better future for CF. Z8 has already shown they are listening to us, with the addition of the Miami server, and renaming it America South with bonus gp, which was both suggested in a different topic. -

I agree, I do not wish to say too much about this topic because realistically speaking this is difficult if not impossible to abolish due to human nature so I'll try to keep things as short as possible. We have made progress in terms of these social constructs; however, most of these hostile thoughts have simply been suppressed in many individuals minds. The thoughts are there, but in this time and place it is no longer as socially acceptable to speak of these -isms. It is possible to significantly diminish these social constructs' powers but once again due to human nature it can only be possible if there are punishments or negative repercussions dealt to the individuals. Human behavior at best can only be controlled by punishments thus why human beings evolved to have frontal lobes (system meant to control impulsive actions). Best of luck with this thread as I do agree with it, but it will most likely be insignificant.
My favorite quote of all time which I stated in class last week, "Opinions are like *******s everyone has one."
+1 for this thread SirHi. Hopefully this will educate some individuals on these forums. -
jeezus, guys this thread is so multicultural and wanna-be good, im going to vomit.
Sure there are different cultures and races, but all of these have some cons and some pros.
So u can make a joke of it and the other side should take it, cause its like it is. And vice versa
So this means not every culture is on the same level in some particular point of view. So u may say this culture is bad, if theres more cons or more important cons than pros. Or if someones culture is attacking your culture or the way u live in significant way.
The fact we r all people and live on this planet doesnt mean we r all the same, or have same abilities. And this must inevitably leads to one conclusion, there are better and worse people. In addition to this if more people form one specific nation behaves worse than people in your nation, you can, you CAN say they are worse, its their problem. Some citizens or members of a specific culture can be offended by it, but they ARE AWARE of the problems, so u wont tell them anything new. Its up to them to deal with it or improve it.
And vice versa for us -
The problem is that some games aren't meant for certain people. Every other version of CF has IP restrictions IIRC. Should we protest against them, since they restrict our access to the game? I for one understand that these versions like to have their players all in a close area, to unite the community under one language. Never would I think of playing CF China, or Japan, or Vietnam, because those games are not meant for me. Likewise, this English version of the game should be played by English speaking people. What we have now is a jumble of two dozen languages, which makes this game a complete mess in terms of community and communications.
In terms of race, age, and gender discrimination, they all play minor roles.
Race only comes into play when their language and ping are involved. I don't think people really care if you're asian, or african, or mexican, or whatever as long as you speak english and have a decent ping.
Physical age is difficult to distinguish when you can't see someone, and voices only reveal so much. Add the fact that only the competitive side really uses voice-chatting, the problem of age discrimination is minor.
In terms of gender discrimination, most people just assume you're male and what little amount of females do play really don't make a big scene out of it, so no one really cares. On the flip side, I see many people throwing out hateful comments to people who choose to use the female characters in game. Sure, there might a slight gameplay reason as to why these characters are 'unfair,' but that's why they're banned in competitive tourneys. In a regular pub they give barely noticeable advantages that have been blown completely out of proportion.
You sire, you have brain. -

That is a good point of view, but a human is human. What is the difference between a white male and a black female? At the end of the day, if you remove what they do on a day to day basis, they are still humans. They have the basic body parts, and were made the same way. They can feel, they can communicate, and they have a reason to live. -
Well but if u say all is the same, even if u see its not, u r just fooling yourself
Im NOt saying someone is less HUMAN, im just saying some human are better and some worse. There are good dogs, bad dogs, special breed dogs for fighitng, running, whatever: ) But u Know if u breed a dog to be 5 cm and look like a teddy, it lacks the dogs abilities and its just a toy, so its still a dog but its useless. But i wont go over and over -
Maybe "noobism" would describe it but I can't find the word off the tip of my tongue for what I am about to say. Rookies are constantly harassed in this game by more experienced players and it is something at aggravates me at times. Sure I can be accused of such harassment as I can feel your pain when xxP3nwerxx can't defuse the bomb because he just made an account. We've all been through that stage and we should not bother new players. Hey, you were a "noob" too. I think we should get rid of that word because it is every bit hurtful as say, "**gger" or "***whole." We as a community do not respect anyone but ourselves and we certainly should take the time to do so. I do it too and it happens sometimes, but you should not deter someone from playing just because they are new.
I do not know if this relates with your wall of intelligence you just posted there, but who cares? :] Hehe. -
english is not my native language, just trying to write in a way that you can understand it.
but its really pathetic to expect everybody on earth to be perfect with english.
even punctuation is a common reason for flame in these forums.
cf is an international game, but most of those flamers take it as a US-effort.
cant take that serious. -

The thing is. This game was originally made for North American players, but because of reasons that are obvious [such as income, and the amount of players from other parts of the world], Cross Fire opened it's arms to others. If you actually remember closed beta, and about the 2 first weeks of open beta, the game was mainly NA players. Of course, word gets out about many games, and more players come.
I'd say that this game was a higher percent of English speaking population when Z8Games took over back in August of 2009. That's why the English speaking rule is actually enforced on these forums.
Being fluent in a language is a privilege. English is one of the most popular languages on Earth. If you are new to English, then so be it. It's not your fault, but many forumers would actually like to understand what the other is saying.
You saying that everybody needs to speak English is touching on "racism" when it actually isn't. It's an enforced rule on this forum. In contrast to popular knowledge, most forumers here are actually good forumers who want this community to be good. We, speaking from my perspective, would like to understand the person we are communicating with.
For example, if a foreigner came to a North American country such as Canada, and everybody was speaking English to them, they would be very frustrated. That is the same with us forumers having to try to decompose foreign languages. -

even i can see crazy word "constructions" sometimes, but if i can surely understand whats meant, its ok, i dont need to put the boot in....
thats not racism for me as english as a language cant be discriminated...
thats a poor sign for pretension and it wont be better by using google as a translator....thats a community thing and i think you enforce the community to be stricter with that. -

Yes, I see your perspective. What I'm trying to say is that, if a person from Mexico, per se, were to come to this forum and speak Spanish, would you rather them speak Spanish or use a translator and speak some English? I know that I would like to be able to at least know what the person is coming from.
I know that language can not be discriminated :P My point is that something is better we can try to interpret than nothing. -
I am going to center my post around applying for (NA) clans.
Racism: I do know that you spoke about Brs (yes I'm going to abbreviate them) not being a race, but as a country, but in crossfire terms, there are Six "Races"
1: NA English speakers: Accepted in almost any NA clan, as long as they have skill.
2: NA Non-English speakers- Primarily speak Spanish or Chinese: not accepted into any regular NA clans, join specialized clans for their specific language.
3: NA English speaking Asians (Azns): Accepted into any NA clan as long as they have skill, get easier access into Asian clans.
4: Non English speaking Europeans (EU's): Not accepted into NA clans.
5: English speaking EU's: Accepted into any NA clans, as long as they have the skill.
6: Brazilians, both Portuguese and English Speaking: shunned, not allowed to join any NA clans. (except for a few isolated cases)
Agism:
Age 10-12: Allowed in Pub clans, or better clans if they have connections(Siblings...Parents...Friends IRL...Etc)
Age 12-15: Allowed in Pub clans, better clans if they have the skill.
Age 16-18: Allowed in all but the elite 18+ clans.
Age 18+: Allowed in any clan.
Sexism:
Virtually nonexistent... If a girl possesses the necessary skill for a clan, she is accepted.
All of these -isms overlap in the process of accepting a clan member. -

I agree with a bit of this, but I'd like to add the following:
-Australian Players [English speaking]: Accepted into some NA teams because they should be able to speak English
-South American Players [English speaking / not English speaking] : Other than Brazilians, there are, in fact, players from Mexico, Argentina, and countries such as Uruguay.
-Russian and Asian Players [Speak their own languages] : Primarily players who have played previous versions of this game and want to try out the English VersionAgism:

Agreed with some of this. Many players Aged 18+ are not always allowed in every team. I think that many competitive and serious teams have a 16+ requirement. I know my team has a 16+, but if you're not immature, exceptions will be made.Sexism:

I agree with this point. If they possess the skill, they will be let in. But from past experience, I have found that girls aren't taken as seriously. They are teased. Many teenagers have hormones. They'd rather flirt with her than take her seriously.
