[Intelligent Discussions] The " "-isms
Hello, some of you may know me, some of you may not. It’s not that it really matters though. In response to the, “lack of activity” from me, I have decided to come back start making these intelligent threads just as many have done before. You may say, I am doing my own series of threads that promote intelligent discussions and hard thinking. I’ve been wanting to do this ever since our very own [MOD] Polleus has done. These threads won’t be a daily implementation, but I will have some threads.
Just to clarify, if you guys think that I am “copying” Polleus, or that I am trying “way too hard to be a mod” (some critique that I have received from many forumers after posting my threads) you guys really should look at the big picture. I am making these threads in order to help the forums become a regular gaming forum, to an intelligent, nurturing, and promoting community or even a family. If you do not share these same ideas, but instead want to think in a negative manner, just don’t read this. Post a “cool story bro” or a “tl;dr” and show your lack of intelligence. Just remember, I called this before anything actually happened.
This is a series of threads. These threads are really not “informative threads”, I prefer to call them “discussion threads”. If you don’t know proper English (which pertains to proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation), there are many websites that can help. I also know, from my past experience and from my research, that some internet browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, have spell-check, grammar-check, and punctuation-check built into them. If not, here are some helpful links:
Due to a lot of discrimination a foreigner may experience in our community, mainly due to the fact that this is an English only forum, there are some decent online translators, such as Google Translator
Just to be clear, I bump the latest one every now and then until it becomes clear that nobody has anything new to contribute.
Well, without further ado, here is my thread that I bring to you today!

The “ ”-isms
Topic: Do you personally think that the many “-ism’s” come into play in the community. Some examples of these are racism, ageism, and sexism. Please do not limit to these 3, if there are any others that you think apply, feel free to speak your word!
Racism
In my opinion, racism does have a huge play in this community. We know that there are the three basic races that are usually mentioned when somebody utters the word “racism”. They are white (primarily from European backgrounds, but may have immigrated generations ago to North America), black (African or Jamaican), and yellow (Asian). What I have noticed in my approximate 2 years in this game, are that many players are classified by what they are. For example, I will use my good friend Dayo, or otherwise known as Kirby. I admit personally, I am a very huge community member. I go onto pug vents just as many of us do. I have noticed over the weeks that have gone by that Dayo is, not necessarily discriminated, but he is treated different. Being proud of your country and heritage is a thing, but have the players who have done the laughing ever think if Dayo is laughing with you because he thinks that it is funny, or if he is laughing to take away the pain. It’s not that I am speaking from Dayo’s angle, I am just voicing my thoughts.
In addition, we have our South American neighbours who face constant discrimination. I know, the typical Brazilian is hated on a constant basis by the community. I also know, that Brazil is not a race, but a nation, he or she is only being used as an example. What I am trying to state is that, ”Have you ever thought of saying this to his or her face if you had the chance?” I know that I wouldn’t. Sure many foreigners lag, and play this game and make you mad. Sure, there is the occasional hacker, or the occasional player who seems to take bullets like a tank. I doubt that many people have actually stopped and thought that they can’t control their location in this world and can’t move because of matters, such as personal and financial. Just some food for thought.
I guess that’s enough for this section without starting a full out debate which will eventually lead to flame. I ask for you guys to control your flaming to the foreigners in this thread, and urge staff members to delete any and all comments which are discriminatory.
Ageism
Ageism, for those who do not know, is the discrimination of those because of their age or their number of years lived on this world.
In my opinion, ageism is a huge part of this community. Many players are discriminated on a constant basis for their age. Sometimes, ageism is shown because of one main reason, which is if, or if not, they have reached the age in which puberty happens.
Ageism is shown in it’s largest population in clans and in pugs. By all means, we know for sure that growing up and hitting puberty is a natural thing. We can’t control the whole thing. I think that discriminating somebody because of the “deepness” of their voice is very disrespectful and the person being victimized should stand up and tell the other to be quiet.
Sure, we know this game is PG-13, but there is nothing stopping a child from playing this game. His family probably paid for internet, just as yours.
Sexism
In my opinion, sexism is not a very large part of this community. There are actually, many gamer females who are decent at this game. Sure, they don’t take it as seriously sometimes, but they still want to be treated seriously.
Personally in my clan, there is a woman named Digi_Tigr, who is the team and clan leader’s wife. She is very mature, and sometimes can even be more mature than the male counterparts in our team. Being a female was not their choice, it was given to them, they had to take what they had.
I guess that’s it for this thread. Please post intelligence. I don’t want this to turn into a flame war. Until next time, have fun!

I already know these, however, its nice that you made the community aware that theres boundaries that they shouldnt cross. Its too bad that this year is nearly coming to a close and yet we have these present in our modern society. Cmon pp!l Its bloody 2010 not 1800s! We should get rid of the old and negative ideals and form new ones to benefit the community. Knowing people nowadays, this will fall on deaf ears. Tis sad, yes?
Adapt or die in a rock! The choice is yours really. -
What about the Brazilians and Turks complaining and raging about our -low- ping? Shouldn't they treat us the same?
I m sure its only a handful of em. I still dont believe that ALL of them are like that despite what ppl post. Most members just use them as scapegoats to feel better about themselves. -
What about the Brazilians and Turks complaining and raging about our -low- ping? Shouldn't they treat us the same?
In a smart world, people wouldn't do the same done onto them if it wasn't going to go anywhere.
As for the "isms"
Racism - People have to realize there's not much different because of Race. The way people look is because of them adapting to where they live.
The way they act is there culture. To you it might be weird, to them it's normal and what you do is weird.
Ageism - Age really doesn't mean anything to me. Age can not show the maturity or mentality of people. Though usually the older "elders" are more "mature and wise" many people young have more maturity and mentality then they are led up to because of their physical age.
My point for that is, Mental Age is greater than Physical Age. When doing things, Physical age should barely hold an impact.
Sexism - I don't see it as much with this community, which is nice. I see it much bigger in some games, however some people are still sexist, and while people are allowed their own opinion, certain things should just not be said if it offends someone. Everyone is equal, in something someone is weaker in to you, they are stronger than you in something else. -
I totally condone Racism. I see no difference between an African and a Dutch besides the color and the culture. We're all humans, we live in the same planet, why would we like to insult our neighbors? Because of a color? Because of a language? Well then it's weird, we're assuming that our language and our color is better than theirs, which doesn't have any sense.
About the sexism, I don't see it in this community. I remember so far the old EU pug vent when a female tGaming member was there. It was soooooo good to hear a sweet voice!
Agecism, well, in this community there are some 12's indeed, with no maturity or respect for anyone. Just ignore them, it's easy as hell. -
Honestly I haven't ran into many "racists" during my time playing CF. Sure there are the few kids that like to make a few stereotypical jokes but that will happen anywhere.
I don't really care about age just as long as they are mature.
I can't recall any discrimination against women in CF either, maybe I just live in a bubble. lol -
I doubt that many people have actually stopped and thought that they can’t control their location in this world and can’t move because of matters, such as personal and financial. Just some food for thought.
SirHi
The problem is that some games aren't meant for certain people. Every other version of CF has IP restrictions IIRC. Should we protest against them, since they restrict our access to the game? I for one understand that these versions like to have their players all in a close area, to unite the community under one language. Never would I think of playing CF China, or Japan, or Vietnam, because those games are not meant for me. Likewise, this English version of the game should be played by English speaking people. What we have now is a jumble of two dozen languages, which makes this game a complete mess in terms of community and communications.
In terms of race, age, and gender discrimination, they all play minor roles.
Race only comes into play when their language and ping are involved. I don't think people really care if you're asian, or african, or mexican, or whatever as long as you speak english and have a decent ping.
Physical age is difficult to distinguish when you can't see someone, and voices only reveal so much. Add the fact that only the competitive side really uses voice-chatting, the problem of age discrimination is minor.
In terms of gender discrimination, most people just assume you're male and what little amount of females do play really don't make a big scene out of it, so no one really cares. On the flip side, I see many people throwing out hateful comments to people who choose to use the female characters in game. Sure, there might a slight gameplay reason as to why these characters are 'unfair,' but that's why they're banned in competitive tourneys. In a regular pub they give barely noticeable advantages that have been blown completely out of proportion. -

Some versions of Firefox [the really old ones] require you to either update it, or download the plugin. It's just a link for those who can't seem to find it.Sulfin wrote:The problem is that some games aren't meant for certain people. Every other version of CF has IP restrictions IIRC. The point is, those games were meant for a certain area of the game. The company sets the boundaries that it wants to support. You cannot complain to an establishment if they have a male and female washroom, but the female washroom always has a huge line. Same thing being with something such as this forum. We only allow English speaking posters, but we allow non-English speaking players. I understand your point of view, that this game should only be English-only, but look at the stats. Foreigners purchase ZP as well, no? Income is most likely the top priority of a company and all companies that I know. If a company put the customer at the top [trust me, most companies say that, but they usually make money their real top priority].
Staff like [GM] Saidin and [CM] FallenAngel still want their paycheck at the end of the day. It makes no sense to just throw away clients because they cannot speak their language. There are ways to get by this wall, it's the 21st century.Sulfin wrote:Physical age is difficult to distinguish when you can't see someone, and voices only reveal so much. I completely agree with this, but many clans still discriminate others because of their voice. It's not because they hate ages, it's because their voices are sometimes irritating, and many younger players do not have the respect and the courteous that fully grown man would. There is the occasional mature young player, and I respect that. Growing up is a natural part of one's life.Sulfin wrote:In terms of gender discrimination, most people just assume you're male and what little amount of females do play really don't make a big scene out of it, so no one really cares. Being a female in game isn't politically correct, nor wrong. You're choosing your own avatar in the game. It's not a representation of who you really are in real life. Many people who have the choice to make themselves on the internet, choose a larger than life image. Many players also are females in game because it's ZP, and they maybe would like to express their country, for example, the SPOP is British [in this version of the game] and the STAR is Malaysian. -
Personally im not a racist but i admit that i have been racist to BRs in this game but nothing really serious, sexism i rly dont care if u r a man or a woman.... ive had many female players in my team and i always talked to them with respect, the same i cant say about some of my old team mates.... ageism i really use ageism a lot not by the tickness of the voice of the person or by their actual age but by their maturity level, if i talk to someone and i see that the person is more interested in calling everyone stupid and is being totally imature then i refuse to talk to such person, when the person just kids alot and when its to be serious the person is serious then i take him/her as a mature guy....
i agree that our community takes ageism and racism really deep in their minds as i said im an ageist in terms of maturity but im not a racist, i think we all need to put our differences apart and join in the great crossfire community

Sounds like a lot of the players that I play with/ have played with. We are all around 14-17 years old and are all almost always super mature. Even more so than some of the people on these forums. -

remember we had a issue about this a while back?
i likes the female gamers (y)

you guys need to realize that not everyone in the world speaks english, and learning it is a big effort for us. -
I just wished the game had more people who didn't just care about them...like for example in games of SnD and GM. People dont communicate well or they dont communicate at all. It kind of gets fustrating :[
See some of the Chinese CF videos where almost everyone there knows the same language...the teamwork is perfect and I'm jealous >:[
I dont HATE Brazilians but I tend to avoid them for a ton of reasons...and they just rage at me for having a better ping or for being better than them and then they kick me
*Obvious hacker comes in*
Us: Kick him!
Them: No he pro no hack
Us: -.-
Anyways, good post Sirhi
We missed you

Sure many foreigners lag, and play this game and make you mad. Sure, there is the occasional hacker, or the occasional player who seems to take bullets like a tank. SirHi
Sure, they can't help where they live/were born, but they can stop playing. But I do understand where you are coming from.
Something I've been thinking about lately on this matter is, many times I see people with 200+ ping calling me a lagger, and the natural thought would be, "wow he's dumb" or something on those lines. However, a week or so ago when my internet was spazzing out because of a storm, and I had a ping of 200 and up, it looked like everyone was lagging and teleporting across the map, and none of my bullets regged. If someone didn't know better, he might think it was because of hacks, or lag on the other person's side. And with the language barrier, it's hard to communicate the truth to non-english speakers.
And I literally just thought of this, but what if the reason many BRs talk all in caps and rage is because of the problems mentioned above. And unlike me, when it lasted on/off for only a couple of days, they experience it every time they play., and become overly frustrated.
I don't really notice BRs hacking more than any other group of people on CF. I think that's just one of many negative connotations that has attached itself to brazilians.
I don't think Ageism is a big problem. There are several well known players in this community who are in their early teenage years, or younger. I admit, annoying voices do kind of irritate me on vent sometimes. But not so much that I will insult them or even joke about it, because it may be a touchy subject.
A type of discrimination I've seen, nearly purely on the forums, is insulting someone for their looks. It just frustrates and almost angers me when I see someone reply to a person, and because they can't think of a good response, they just make a remark on a facial feature. This makes you look like an immature middle school bully, laughing at someone's new glasses.
Sorry for all the grammatical errors and nonsensical ramblings. I've been really tired today :P -
@ zonedout
I played some games in some servers which gave me 600+ ping and it wasn't bad...for me...
Lagging isn't really a good excuse to start hacking and kicking everyone that's better than you.
If you lag and know you can't play like this, why play the game at all? Just think about it

First of all, thanks. Secondly.
Asking one to stop playing what they love, such as a Brazilian teenager playing Cross Fire is the equivalent of asking somebody like Eminem, pardon the example, to stop rapping. One "stereotype" that tends to actually be true is that teenagers love to play games and amuse themselves. They think that playing with all of that lag is normal, mainly because they themselves have not yet traveled the world, and if they do, it's a huge honour and they would rather do something than play a game. Much less, their parents probably saved up a lot of money to get them on a regular trip, therefore they, as most teenagers should, would listen to them and feel grateful.
That's how they play. They have gotten used to it. I've played personally with 300 ping before while downloading. I know it's really hard, which is why many foreign gamers aren't the best. There are also many amazing foreign gamers, such as Brazooka [he's not very active anymore]. -
i think someone should make a CF BR.
not that I hate them, but the general community seems to have a probelm with them. Hell there are around 10 different types of CF and BR doesn't have one?
BR is the majority of people in this game and why hasn't anyone done something?
they deserve a CrossFire more than we do. -

That's a good point. I know some people who play Cf China and other versions on a regular basis, to use guns/items, etc. not available to this version yet. I'm pretty sure the Chinese(or VN, Phillipene, etc.) players get ticked off when playing with these laggers from a different continent. These are people who have access to their own game where they get better ping and have a much better experience. They told me they kind of got used to the lag, and since they don't know what anyone is saying, they assume it's not directed at them, and use that as leave to keep playing, regardless of whatever the "native" players think about them.L0LSmilyFace wrote: »@ zonedout

I didn't say my little theory was the truth, or even close to it. i just put that in there for the sake of discussion. I think Hi answers your question very well
