I used to be able to play all servers (besides Delta and the UK To escape the BR's and Turks) and I pinged roughly 109/111 in most servers.
Now I'm lagging like a BR 149/150/160 sometimes, which forces me into the UK Turk infested servers:(
Nice ping 15/20(ish) but yeah:( -
Ping latency has something to do with it.
Here's a quote that might help:
ISPs are not obliged to operate with any minimum latency guarantees,. Discussing the problem with a senior or technical support person as you can find may reveal they have expansion plans that will ease the problem in your area.If your latency is consistently high, you need to question your provider as to your routing. Many ISPs are not national, but are able to sell DSL nationally. In certain cases, they must route traffic all over the place even if you are trying to use local game servers or sites.
In other cases, the ISP has real (and hopefully temporary) routing problems, or a critical failure and they are on backup.
Normally network specialists plan for optimal routing, but during fast growth, your ISP may have got into a situation where customers pay penalty in ping time while the ISP figures out how to resolve the problem.
The first step in diagnosis of high latency is to figure out the ping time to your default gateway.
If your default gateway ping is good, the next step is to get a trace to a server that you believe should be nearby.
Ideally, nearby servers are available with a few number of hops and low total latency.
Basically Latency, a synonym for delay, is an expression of how much time it takes for a packet of data to get from one designated point to another.
Maybe, it's your ISP. It's not guaranteed that you will get a high latency, but you can still negotiate with them. I suggest calling your ISP and complaining or switching to another internet service provider.
I used to use a Cogeco internet, which gave me 14 ping. Now I have a constant 18-26 because their latency rate dropped. I went to my cousin's house, and got 12 ping because of their ISP's provided latency. It's just that easy. New ISP, better ping [sometimes].

This is a problem with Xtrap and our internet connections...
Before the last Xtrap update i had 40/50, after it i have, sometimes it depends on the maps, i have 70/100...
i only have this spikes in some TDM's and some SnD's.... I play GM now :P
PS. i'm sure about what i said about the Xtrap and our connections, it has to be it... -
If your neighbors are on cable and you are as well it would boost your ping.
This happens with me mostly when i play at night like 6-9.
Otherwise, its obviously because the server which you are playing in is located in an ice cream truck constantly moving to sell ice cream bars. < duh

ok, no what do i do next? (thx 4 helping btw) -
Can you redo the command plz, with nothing using up the internet.
I can see something took some of your bandwidth between the 6-10 hops.
Do it again, and don't use the internet while it's running.
