Crossfire is addictive?
A study of people who play online computer games has found that 12% have signs of addiction.
Professor Mark Griffiths, of Nottingham Trent University, revealed the results of a survey of 7,000 online gamers in a British Science Museum lecture.
He said the main aim of the study was to investigate the addictive potential of gaming.
Addictive signs included craving, withdrawal symptoms, loss of control and other negative consequences.
The majority, 94%, of those who took part in the study were men, with an average age of 21. One in nine fulfilled criteria of addiction.
Never-ending games
"Addicted" gamers played for significantly longer periods of time each day than those who were not addicted.
Professor Griffiths said: "Although these gamers show some signs of addiction, our results do not conclusively show that the gamers are genuinely addicted.
"Many gamers play excessively and display few negative consequences.
"However, the 24-hour a day, never-ending online games may provide a potentially addictive medium for those with a predisposition for excessive game playing."
My question is, have you ever suffered of any negative consequence of you gaming too much (SOCIAL, INTELLECTUAL, PHSYCHOLOGICAL, PHYSIOLOGICAL)?

Since I've beenn playing this game, I lost my job, my wife, then my appartment,
then my friends stopped to meet me, I eat less, I don't go to toilet often,
I gain weight.
/mega sarcasm
I love this game, end of story. -

Social: I didn't really "go out" of the house that often. I didn't go to the mall, didn't go to the movies, never felt the need to make plans with friends. I was content to sit at home and talk to people on ventrilo and play games.
I mean, going out to the movies is like $20, playing games is cheaper.
Intellectual: I don't really think so. Video games never made me dumber, thats for sure. And my IQ test says I'm pretty sharp so I'd have to say no on this one.
Phsychological: I never really felt that I changed. Video games were where I let out my stress (Competitive play mostly added to it though) and blew off steam. I might talk a lot online but IRL I'm quiet and keep to myself. I'd say video gaming had a positive impact on me.
Physological: I wasn't too active before I started gaming, so there was really no difference. I would play CF for a long ass time daily (I don't know how I did it then, I couldn't do it now) and I never felt ill or anything. I'm 6'3, 182lbs so I'm not overweight or anything.
Once I stopped gaming, I started working out more just to pass the time (Running and light weight lifting, push ups, situps, etc.) and I started playing Basketball again.
Back in the Serenity days (Like summer '09) I used to wake up, put some shorts on, go upstairs, grab the gallon of Arizona Green Tea out of the fridge and go sit in front of the computer and play CF all day. I'm talking like 10am to 5pm, then I'd hop off the computer when my mom got home from work and chit chat with her for a bit, then after dinner I'd get back on and play from like 7pm to 11pm or later. It was bad. Most of it was pubbing too. Crazy.
But I never felt addicted. If I was out of the house for a day or two and couldn't play I felt just fine. The reason I spent so much time on the computer was because there was nothing more entertaining to do at my house. I figured it was better to interact with people/computer than just sit in front of the TV or watch a movie. The only negitive impact that I think PC gaming has had on me was that when I started college I didn't really do my homework like I should because I'd rather play games. Also I'd do a half assed job on house chores and things like that. -

Social: Even though Im partially addicted, I still go out with friends here and there.
Intellectual: My grades my take a hit once or twice in awhile but it's still good. I say videogames do make you smarter in some way.
Physiology: I'm still well and healthy.
I'm not so addicted to CF that much anymore. But back in the "Serenity" days, I used to play a lot. I'd wake up start the computer and play CF till dark. -
I play CrossFire after I come home from school, sometimes I sneak into the lab to read the forums
. I sometimes have dreams of CrossFire, but I end up waking up scared, because the black character shoots me down
. Other then that I lost three friends, because they said I don't hang out with them anymore, and my girlfriend told me I diddn't spend enough time with her. It's in CrossFire, I have many lives
-
Social: Haven't been impacted too much. I don't go out as much, but I still have my fill of exercise from Track. I used to wake up at like 4 A.M. to play till the bus came around 7, but I'm over that now. My grades drop once-in a-while, a missing homework assignment and so on.
Intellectual: I haven't gotten any dumber, in fact, funny as it is, I've learned quite a few things from the forums, and even ingame.
Physiology: Nope. Not an ounce of weight gained from sitting at the computer for a few hours.
I wouldn't say I'm "Addicted", Don't think about CF that much/at all in school, I'm not bothered too much if I don't play for a few days. CF is a thing to relieve me of stress. -
im only gonna do social and intellectual...
Social: it went down mostly cause people are scary at my school.
Intellectual: i dont know... i havent had a report card without me playing the computer... i get anything from Cs (very few) to mostly As and Bs -
TBH, I had a dream last night.
I was back in Serenity with Sneeze, Bad, Cypher, Pudgypaw, and myself (except my name was 1nR[oL] instead of Bruce1nR like it was back then) vs Life Line's starting 5 on Suba Base.
I was awping and we were on the attack. We ran our default which put me and Bad in the Machine room while the other 3 were holding outside of wood. I peeked and picked off someone awping from L hall, then I ran through mid and as I was headed down the stairs to peek wood I saw a CT pushed up on A stairs so I dropped a nasty quickscope on his dome for my second kill.
Then I had Cypher crouch down and I jumped off his head (Sudden Attack style) and peeked wood and caught a player who was playing upper A for my third kill.
Bad smoked locker room and the two of us nade stacked it to no avail. As we walked down there I shoulder peeked to the left and lo and behold minty was on top of the lockers and I quickscoped the sht out of him.
Malte was the last one left and as I crossed behind doublestack I saw him on the ramp towards A. He was spraying his AK like crazy as he strafed towards closet to stop Bad from dropping down from heaven. With bullets flying all around me I managed to get off a shot that went in between the bars on the gate and hit malte right in the head. He did the CS 1.6 death animation as he was hit.
I gave the replay to luck and he made me look like Jordan Gilbert and I was happy with it. Fk that was an amazing dream. And its weird that I would have that dream and remember all those details considering that I don't even play anymore. That was on the first round too but of course we still ended up losing...but it was a close game.
Sadly I didn't top frag either (I never do).

Wow, it's scary that you just narrated my life almost to the dot.Bruce1nRRRRR wrote: »Social: I didn't really "go out" of the house that often. believe me, the ONLY difference is that I'm 5'5" and weigh 130, and that I still play the game, just a lot less since:
1. I work full time
2. Summer time ^^
But other than that, wow..... -
