Depends on how you use it... It allows us all to discuss out here ... But take a madman. With insane hacking skill (Kevin Mitnick for example). Get pentagone connected to the net. You'll have nuclear war going on in the next 2 hours. As long as there is internet, there is the risk of information war. You might feel secure with your dozen firewalls and hundreds antiviruses, it won't help you if someone really wants to get in your computer AND knows what he's doing.

Internet is good for :
~Finding out informations in no time.
~Finding useful things at every search or maybe things that would turn your curiosity on.
~Many kids nowadays dont use to read anymore , if internet wouldn't be here they would just stay out not reading anything with internet here at least they read stuff form msn/games so on lol.
~Its a cheaper way to talk to people from all over the world.
~Sometimes people learnenglish from games.In my case that was.

Bad:
~Animals (case these people cant be named persons) date girls from the internet fooling them that they love them then abuse them.
~Some people seem to close themselves up to the internet that means no more going out (ok some of them have no other choice >.>) not socializing in real.
~Many kids reproduce what they see in games , fights and so on.few kids really died cause of that (I saw on news last year how some kid "knifed" his parents cuz they told him to go to sleep early and close the pc..).
