Sound trouble....

I recently returned to CF after a couple of months off and now my sound is all screwed up. It was ok last time I played, but now I get a very annoying echo-type effect. It happens the entire time CF is open, (server select screen, in game,etc.), and with every sound. I've updated my drivers and everything else seems to be in order. This is the first time I have ever had an issue with my sound and I play many other games.

My system uses an integrated Realtek High Definition 5.1 Audio card with the latest available drivers downloaded directly from the manufacturer's website. I have Vista Home Basic, running everything as admin, tried both with and without XP compatibility mode enabled.

Nothing I've tried has made a difference, any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: forgot to add other specs - 3.3 Ghz CPU, 2 Gb RAM, DirectX 10, ATI Radeon XPRESS 1100 graphics

Sounds to me like the echo effect if coming from your sound card settings.
Open the realtek control panel and see if any effects environments are on. You can see it says "none" here.

I made sure everything is set to "none" and still no change. I recently had some graphics issues, could that be contributing to the problem? I can't see how it would but I'm no expert so I guess it's worth asking. My graphics are fine now, and my sound is fine in every other app I use, so it doesn't seem like that could be it, but I'm at a loss at this point.

Anyhow, thanks for trying to help, still open to suggestions....
