Suggestions for a first car?
Anyone have suggestions on my first car? I'm a working 15 year old, and here are my requirements:
~Under $5,000
~Relatively safe
~Over 15MPG
~Good reliability ratings
~NO GIRLY CARS
I need some cargo space (doesn't have to be a TON of space), and the cars I generally like are SUV's.
Yeah, alot of requirements. Hope you guys can help :P
At the moment, im looking at the Nissan Xterra 2000/2002models.

oh wait...
you want a "car"
Your recommending a 600cc bike as a first, not only that, but to a person who clearly wants a car. Squid..
Under $5,000 throws out a lot of options.Just buy a used civic, or camry and be done with it. -

Oh right, I almost forgot you were going to make some idiotic comment.
Theres no point in buying a SUV as a first car, seeing as he wants something under 5 grand.
Go to your local news paper, go find some SUVs, most would be 6-8 grand for anything from 1999-2007.

Thats the problem, everyone wants a quality car, but a SUV under 5 grand would be extremply unreliable.
Try like a 2000-2002 Subaru Outback, -

no not true, my dad put 500k miles before it died and the insurance was low, not sure if it was because he has never been in a car accident for 20 some years, didn't take much to keep it maintained -
well here some insurance companies reduce cost if you are a student with good marks, which happens to be my case
different rules vary from different companies, states, countries etc. fact is at the age of 15-23 the insurance is double of that when you are 30. just because your dad owned a car and drove it for a long time without breaking doesn't mean it's the same with everybody else. you do realize that changing tires, coolants, etc etc is all more expensive with a sabaru than lets say a... honda or a kia right? -

don't mess with older american cars, the only car you should buy at that age is a honda or toyota, if you can find a volvo too, a decent american car (which was my first car) was a marauder police interceptor, you can usually buy them from a police auction for a cheap price, it last long (still have it with 200k Miles) but the gas mileage is iffy because it has a v8, it's also roomy, very fast car though

First car doesn't need to be fast, at all.
My neighbor drove Marauder, last long, but its like driving a Cadillac. -
just saying it packs a punch for a cheap car, the thing is a tank.
It packs a punch and makes a entrance, if you like duck tape on the tail-lights, and black rims with a gigantic bumper. It's like a boat, it's big, fuel economy is low, and it's not SUV. Has some space, yet I defiantly wouldn't recommend since hes 15.
Just curious.
Are your parents willing to help you pay for this, or are you just going to pay it all? -

fact is, owning an suv of any kind at your age is a no-no... unless you get major major support from parents.
Why is that? My parents will pay for insurance until my first accident (insurance is $75-$100 a month) and then its on me. I'm paying for the car myself. I also don't get why you guys are saying I shouldnt get certain cars like an SUV or police car which is a tank as my first. -
