-Intro. (f00)
This is a guide made by Darkname, The goal of this guide is not to learn the basic of pinpointing/bhoping, but to work together as a team in scrims and have critical thinking.
The difference from ghost mode from snd is that in ghost mode, it is far easier to rotate sites. Instead of being one site as the main battle ground and having the rest of the map as an escape route, in ghost mode, the whole map is the battle ground. This guide was mainly though for a team of 5, the standard tournament amount.
Ps: I only used lab as an example due to lack of time to finish the guide and it being the best ghost mode map.)

-Encyclopedia. (f20)
Bait: a man running in the middle or so, making sure the opposite team see him and go after him.
Baiter: a man who will aim at the bait and kill whoever attempts to kill the bait, if possible, the bait will live
Floater: a man with no specific location, normally an all around player.
Pinpointing: The act of finding a ghost through breath. (Sound.)
Bhop: A skill involving moving while staying invisible as a ghost.

Global risk. (f30)

-Good players. (f31)
a good gr player will know how to pinpoint, have a decent aim and know how to control he’s spray. He should have a good game sense and know the speed of bhop so he can know where a ghost is for by only hearing breath for a slight second. He will not QQ on Ventrilo or speak for no reason.

-Good teams. (f32)
in a team of 5, you will want 1 person at the easier to defend site, 2 (1 always staying at that site until the bomb has being planted the other being a floater if multiple enemies are found in the opposing site) at the site that is harder to defend, 1 at the middle and 1 floater, depending of the map and personal preference, this will change but should always be the basic.

-First seconds. (f33)
You will want to go into position quickly, depending of the map u will want more 1 side and less the other, although there should always be 1 at each site and 1 floater to replace whoever dies. Different maps also have some sniping points. (See snipers.)

-Mid game. (34)
Play defensively, stick to your position and always have knowledge on the situation of your team-mates, do not leave the site if there is only 1 ghost found on the other site. Good reasons to leave the site would be a team-mate finding the c4, c4 being planted, or simply being the last guy alive. Trust on your team-mates to defend the other site.

-Enemy spotted. (f35)
Only the floater should go backup, if unavailable then 1 of the person extra on the site with 2 person should go, and if not, the mid player. If you are only 2 persons left, you are better off praying for your team-mate and cover your own site

-Bomb has being planted. (f36)
Where? Knowing the c4 location can easily show where the ghosts are, if its in B in the sides or top, chances are there is a bl or 2 in the GR spawn, if its in the tunnel, chance are there is a ghost in the office or in the tunnel. You can easily get ghost that way

Map specific
A
Was it planted on the south? North? On the stairs?
West: chances are a ghost will be on the top or in the bunker, under
Stairs: bunker, top or A room.
East: top, A room, under.
South: top, bunker, pipe room.
On the light: bhoping around in the site, A room, and top.
B
Top: GR spawn and will move to B upper ground when GR is around the c4
Sides: same as top.
Tunnel (aka noob spot.): office, tunnel and running around in B.
Under Middle: running in circle, a bl or 2 in GR spawn/office.
Under front: GR spawn and top.
Keep in mind, its possible to jump from the ramp to the top, being a shortcut and attacking from the side; don’t be taken by surprise by it...

-Defusing. (f37)
Cover from all angles, if one miss, the other shouldn’t, this is the basic of basic yet I see clans all looking at the same spot at the same angle. There is some tricks you can do to **** of bl though: 1. Flash: flashing while often blind bl if they rush as soon as they hear defusing, good teamwork will prevent you from flashing the team.
2. Nading: nade the diffuser if he got plenty of health, it does only about 20 damages to a team-mate ( regular nades without armour) and throwing 2-3 nades will assure no ghost can get near, perfect if the opponent team tent to rush at the last few seconds of the defuse or in teams.
3. Smoking: you can hear them but they can’t see you, although this was never tested to be fully effective. (This will cause a massive fps drop to most players.)
-Baiting. (f38)
Baiting is using your team-mate to bring a ghost, useful in 2v1 situation where you know the appreciative location of the ghost. Not too useful if bl has more players alive though since you cannot guarantee the survival of the bait, make sure the bait understand he is a bait though, so he can pinpoint for the baiter too.

-Field of breath. (f39)
You know those swat teams where they all have a certain location where they look at? That’s to maximise the field of vision, u can do that with sound too.
Don’t stick too close to your team-mates, you will just block each others and give a possible double kill for your opponent, instead, stay about at the range where he stop being able to hear breath and yours, maximizing the area that get pinpointed. This also have a 2nd advantage, it can work as a trap, if the bl player is unlucky to be in the middle of it, both players can pinpoint from 2 dif direction, making a triangle, giving the exact location even at long distance where you can just hardly hear the breath.

Black list.(f40)

-Good players. (f41)
A good bl player will know how to bhop, frontward, in circle, has the ability to switch between each of them and ect. He should be very patient and attack when the opportunity arises. The ability to make a map of the location of the gr’s in he’s mind is a nice plus and is needed to lead the team.

-Good teams. (f42)
A good blacklist team will know how to work together without necessarily being close to each other, a good player will know how to bait or how to be the bait and make sure he’s team-mates can get to where he’s planting the bomb.

-First seconds. (f43)
Leave by the area that is closer to you, to be picky or else you will get picked, (Get it? Yes thank you sir, I am very clever.) Especially in lab and metro

-Mid game. (44)
Find out where the GR are camping, this is especially needed on the first round, knowledge of where their camping and what way is possible to kill them will help both you and your team-mates, kill whoever is in a bad spot first then plant to the site the most appropriate.

-Planting. (f45)
So, you chose what site, now what? Chose where you want to plant, there is plenty of dif places but some are not recommended, don’t plant if: 1. Its to hide the c4, no decent clan will fall for it, instead plant somewhere where you can see it from far away and have a clean route for bhoping.

-Covering. (f46)
-Early defuse: have 1 person rushing the diffuser, another rushing those who cover. You should get plenty of kills that way and a great chance of killing the diffuser, buying both time and a good ratio on how many you killed/how many you lost. The rest should wait their turn. This work nicely since most peoples has their eyes on the diffuser and not anywhere else.
-Mid/late defuse: rush from all sides. You don’t want to risk a lone rusher to get killed. You might get a death, but at least it increases your chances to win the round.
-Bomb has being defused. You lost, read this guide during your free time, not during a scrim.

-Baiting. (f47)
Less risky then on GR, the bait intentionally fail he’s bhop, long enough so the GR take notice of it and shoot at you. Return to you bhop right after though, you don’t want to die, do you? (Knowing how to circle bhop is extremely useful here.) The baiter then comes from behind the GR, with the sound of bullets and their concentration on you the baiter should have no problem killing any GR that was there, even if he was running!)

    Gun specific. (f50)

    -AWM/M700/Dragunov. (f51)
Know the spots, kind of like in snd, if you miss your shot, switch to your side arm, bhop away from the ghost spray, and get somewhere safe. A sniper should be playing mid or on duo in a site, but never as a floater. Great quickscoping skills will be needed.)
Possible spots to take a pick.
    -The base camp.
    crossfire201007080003.png
    -Bench shot.
    crossfire201008050001v.png
    -B to A.
    crossfire201007080001.png
-Water to mid. (Great spot to spray since by the time you arrive there is bound to be a ghost around there.)
    crossfire201007080004.png

    -psg/dsr/ect. (f52)
Like the other snipers, except it doesn’t unscope after shooting, try to kill the ghost but as soon as he get close, retreat. Not really recommended since you won’t get that much long range shooting in ghost mode then you would get in snd. (See awm/m700/dragunov for the spots.)

    -Rifle. (f53)
Any rife is good, but the best are the silenced m4 series, simply for the fact it’s silenced. Oh, scratch that, the SG is not good! (Loud piece of ****.)
Do not spray, this is the preferred weapon of the pinpointers for it ability to decimate anything at medium range and also the best weapon to cover almost any site.

    -SMGs. (f54)
The mp5 adv is the king of this section, silenced + the ability to run nearly as fast as an axer while still hitting the target= awesomeness, if you can’t afford zp though, go for the regular mp5. (The kriss and m12s are for noobs.)
    best for the floater.

    -Shotguns. (f55)
Since the ghost needs to get near you, the shotguns will often decimate but is worthless if you see a ghost running across the map, best to have a deagle to deal with that situation.
Would go great with someone going duo with a sniper but never have two shotgun users together since you will have 1 for nothing. A shotgun is also a great weapon for a player still learning to pinpoint, since you don’t need to be as accurate with it then you would with a rifle.

    -Machine guns. (f56)
Yes, the heavy duty televisions, its heavy, annoy your neighbours and never stop broadcasting random sprays!
Personally, I hate them! Its only good for a noob, any decent player should never scrim with that.

    Melee specific.(f60)

    -Knife. (f61)
The default weapon, 1 shot in the head and the fastest running speed. Easy to learn and the best weapon on the hand of a master. It gets ruined by armour though, since it can’t 1 shot in the head anymore.

    -Axe. (f62)
Its stab can 1 shot in the body ( with armour too)and its slash can 1 shot in the head(without armour), but you will be slow, slow to the point that without breath down you will have no hope of reaching a good pinpointer without strategies. But it got a great advantage; you don’t need to aim for the head! Allowing you to stab while bhoping. (Possible with the knife but incredibly hard.) Be careful though, missing your stab give the biggest time to wait until you can stab again out of all the weapons.

    -Shovel. (f63)
Will bring shame to your family. Run about the same as the knife, insane range and its stab can 1 shot anywhere in the body. (80 to the foot with armour?) Its stab takes time to hit but you can stab right after, making it actually stab nearly as fast as the knife do. Any noob will do great scores with this weapon.

    Nade specific.(f70)

    -Nade. (f71)
The goal of the nade is obviously to kill, but it is far more effective to cover what you can’t, or make yourself an escape route. It is extremely effective if the whole team nade a site, kind of like a super nade. That allows you to know there’s no ghost directly in the site or simply get a kill.

    -Smoke. (f72)
smokes are **************************************************** (Yes that’s one word) annoying in gm, since most peoples don’t use it properly, a smoke is used to hide stuff, not the other way around. It does get it uses though, if you want to make a ghost go a certain place, block the other route with a smoke, chances are ( but not always so keep an eye on it) he will take the clear path. It’s also useful for peoples with great pinpointing skills against peoples with flawless bhop; you won’t see them anyway, so why not block their view too? The time it takes for them to find out where you are you will have a free 1-2 seconds to pinpoint. Don’t use them to find idle ghosts, you will make a mess.

    -Flashes. (f73)
Well obviously, this is a double edged sword. Although its great if you hear breath the other side of a wall and can throw the flash by making it rebound, jump in looking backward to make sure you don’t get flashed and then turn to the ghost after the flash went off, if the ghost had the reflex to turn away from it, at least u where both looking away and u got a slight advantage with breath.

    Items specific. (f80)

    -Breath down. (f81)
Some players say its noobish, some say it’s a requirement, I personally find it to be what equalise bl and GR if no other items (except defuse kit obviously) are used. It will greatly decrease the range you can be pinpointed but not enough to make you un-pinpointeble.

    -Step down. (f82)
    Worthless to any decent player.

    -Fall damage down. (f83)
Well, might save you from times to times, but safe falling will do just as well if not better.

    -Armour. (f84)
-Body armour: not that much of an advantage but still is one, will take maybe a shot more to kill you. (Seem the shovel does 80 with its stab if he hit your foot and you have armour.)
-Head armour: you will be able to survive a headshot of most guns (especially those that are great in gm.) and can survive a knife stab in the head or an axe. slash, massively Overpowered in GR when facing non zp users and semi overpowered in bl.

    Having fun. (f90)

    Oh yay! The fun part!

    -Taliban style. (f91)
I got called a noob, I made new friends, and I got kicked, but… At least I had fun! The goal of this is to nade kill yourself while trying to bring a ghost with you, extremely fun!

    -Jousting. (f92)
You will need a friend in the other team to do that can be done in any mode too! Both take a knife, stand in front of each others at a decent distance and bhop toward each other but enough to the side so you don’t bump into each others, and try to knife the other player while you pass each other.

    -Smoking hazard. (f93)
The whole team of 8 throw all their smokes in the same area, nuff said. (We tried doing that to ninja defuse the bomb but to not to much success.)

    -The train. (f94)
that’s where a scrim get fun, both for GR and bl. Get all your team-mates to form a line and crouch walk and the first in the row lead the train!

    -Finding hackers (f11)

    -Running.
Well that won’t work against hackers that at least know how to notice sound, but most don’t anyway. Manage to go behind him and just run, in a way that there’s no way a real pinpointer don’t hear you. If he turn around and kill you, chances are he’s legit, if not, 99% chances he cant pinpoint, add to the fact that he can pinpoint you perfectly when your in front and you probably have a hacker.
    -Breath distance.
Know it! It will help you both for not getting pinpointed and have knowledge of if he’s hacking or not, careful though, lag may make it look farther then it actually is.
    -Hack or guess?
As I explained in the above, pinpointing is not the only way to find a ghost, if you get shot across the map, think for a sec or two:
-Was he always pre-firing there each round? ( I myself tend to pre-fire some spots from time to times since i never get too low on ammo anyway, I also tend to pre fire out of nowhere when their was no action in a while.)
-Did you plant the bomb in the last 10 seconds?
-How often does somebody go to that spot?
    - Is it the first time he kill you across the map or the 9th on all different places?
-Where you bhoping in a line?
-Did a team-mate go between you and the GR? or vice versa?
    -And ect
-As always you should always check the replay before reporting. (Or QQing...)
  • i sorta scanned through it, lots of text, but i can see you spent a long time on this :D

    vote for sticky :D
  • to be honest i went lazy on it due to the fact i never play lost relic and din't want to talk about all maps and then have lost relic completely incomplete :D
that and i felt like it was staying in the dust and that i would end up forgetting it if i don't post it.

    thx for the feedbacks :D
  • Where's the part where you show us how you get 0-3 with shovel then Rage quit?
  • Really with a "PSG Red Dragon" terrible, but good guide.

did you really take me seriously? also, did i rq? no i din't. i don't play gm anymore, got a shovel though crate ( on an old account too) and felt like screwing around, used the shovel for one round then returned to knife. i din't play any bl sided game for over a month and was rushing. you take pubing way too seriously. if it would have being a scrim i could understand, but a pub?

also, rate a player's guide by the guide itself, not on a single pubs. as i remember, pubing is for screwing around, not for try harding or showing your skills.

not so much of a floater or baiter
    Good guide
    i really loved it
    Fun times=in lost relic
i got attacked by a ghost while holding a nade
when he attacked me with his slash,i threw a nade at the floor then i die than the nade killed the ghost
    so i was like

I find fault with the bolded words.

Are you saying that people who can pinpoint you while you are in front are always hackers? OR, Is it that if they cant hear you behind them and then they pinpoint you is hack? Cause I know people who cant do the behind pinpoing but can do the front pinpoing...

to be honest, there is no way some1 can pinpoint from the front, but not hear running somebody from the back( unless their is some kind of weird sound card issue? ), if you hear a ghost behind you, it will sound like hes in front, so a normal reflex would be to shoot in front. now if your running, theirs just no reason for the player not to hear it, if you know somebody who can pinpoint in the front perfectly but not notice a ghost from behind, might be a good idea to make them growler for a week.
  • I'd like to make a slight defense for shovel users, The shovel has the SAME range as the knife, the stats are lying(I've personally tested this).

Although the un-synced animation is what normally gets the kills(you swing right away, but you're actually hitting 1 seconds later).

The axe is a bit slower then the shovel, but not so much, I'm also pretty sure the shovel is faster then the knife, but haven't personally tested.

Also, you should write on how to rush, and avoid being shot, b-hopping is pro and all, but sometimes a good ol' rushin' is just as good, if not better.

Oh, and I'd like to say, all is not lost for people who use speakers, set your sound to surround sound, and set them far enough apart to where you can hear the difference... Then the sounds will come in properly to help tell you what side they're on. It also helps tell you when they're close, If you hear very loud breathing, and trust me, it gets VERY VERY VERY LOUD VERY SUDDENLY, They're within 2-4 meters of that spot, and you should probably spray, or look-out.

Just stuff I've learned while playing as BL and GR, cause shovelin' them noob ghosts as GR is F'in hilarious(and gets me kicked wayyyyy too often)

    False -_-

If one person stands on a typical DJ box, against one side, and another person stands OFF said box on the other side, when they jump and stab with a knife it won't it.

    A Shovel will.
  • I like it. This is a really good guide for people who never played GM or people who need to improve. I also see how you made this very long and quite informative. +1

Then it must not show on wall hits... and only player hit-box registration, because that's what I used to test and it was the same... but that could be invalid...

Also one again from personal use, I haven't seen it hit any farther... and if it does, it's VERY tiny.
  • great guide also the PSG1 Red Dragon is not a bad gun its pretty good because of the ammo in the clip and the automatic fire as well as u walk around with it and it stays pretty accurate for a psg1. all the red dragon models have increased acc. while moving if you didn't know. so fully auto + good acc while moving + minamal zoom level = pwnage in GM if you can hit your targets. I would also like to point out that any gun and every gun is good if you know to use it! by the way the MGs are useful since the ammo cappaicty and put MG Clip on it? game over with 345 in the RPK camo that i love! but its good if uer the last one left also you dont need to worry about reloading since its got 115 bullets a clip 120 for the gold and the m60 adv has 150 as does the gattling gun. i would not suggest using a gattling gun in GM due to the start up time before firing as this could mean the difference between life and death. MGs are vauable in GM don't write em off just because people say "he's spraying" "he's a noob" or w/e.

fact is that i use it because i normaly use an MG as well as the ammo and fire rate are nice. if they put a suppressor on an MG....uh GG anyone? ive noticed that the suppressor reduces a little bit of damage. (i own all the m4's but the org classic m4 gold i have the new m4 gold tho, AND YES I STILL OWN THE M4 XMAS! <---its fun cuz improved acc. and fire rate a tiny bit.) i still say the best one is the ak-47 knife that i use a lot as well. u can knife during reload and stop the reload as well as it has the LONGIST reach in the game i tryed it out on Lab the axe shovel and ak47 knife in GR spawn. the shovel beats the axe in range but the ak-47 knife beats the shovel its around 4 - 5 1/2 blocks away witch is a LONG range attack. if only i could use it as my melee weapon instead.... >_<

when the shovel first came out, i bougth it, and would kept being surprised by getting kills i thoug i would miss by being too far, when it expired and i changed to the axe, my kd droped from going 12-1 in bl without problem against pin pointers to going negative ( well i wasn't use to the axe timing) after a while i got used to the axe timming but still never got that 12-1 bl average back, while having improved my bhop by A LOT ( i can do it faster, in circle, ( couldn't at the time of the shovel) and failing a lot less, well now i don't play gm anymore + i have only the knife left, that i almost never used, so i sux in bl atm :D )

i din't know rd weapons had better accuracy while moving, but who fire a sniper while moving though. so its an advantage that doesn't really matter, as the psg red, its not that its a bad gun, its the fact its bad at taking pick or quick-scoping that i hate it ( by taking picks i mean killing som1 as he pass the corner, where u only have a split sec to do so, the psg red can 1 shot in the head, but the fact it cant double scope and it not as accurate + a head shot is obviously harder, make the psg unreliable.

every guns can be used, ex blind rob with hes m60, but scrim wise, you will want whats the best, and the best is what work both for you, and allow your team-mate to also pinpoint, the m60/rpk is pretty good at finding/killing ghosts, but you will get your team-mates killed.
the ak knife, i never used it myself, but i heard it was pretty beast in ghostmode, its just preference. ( tbh theres a lots of choices rifle wise)
