  • I'm guessing you already tried but have u tried simply restarting your pc? that mite fix it but if not I had this problem as well... I had to go to add/remove programs (in control panel) and uninstall cf... then you go to my computer, C drive, Program files folder and in that folder look for anything named crossfire, suba games or Z8games and delete anything you see.... then you to your my documents folder and same thing.. delete anything to do with crossfire... then you go to the cf website and redownload it and it worked for me... for some reason mine had a glitch and would keep saying the same thing your getting until i uninstalled + looked for other left over stuff and deleted everything :S

Dude I tried that and I rebooted it ten times but it still didn't work and I've even waited for the Cf to come up but it didn't and I still don't know what to do
  • While I understand your frustration, this is not something that works out easily if the installation corrupted the patch process.

Use Revo Uninstaller to remove Crossfire. Clean your registry with a registry cleaner like CCleaner. Then reboot. Reinstall after the reboot and run it. Do not attempt to start the game before the patcher finishes AND CLOSES. Sometimes the patcher may take a minute to close in the background after it has already dropped off the screen and by hitting the Crossfire.exe you may prevent the entire update.
  • While we can't condone the use of third party programs, we have heard that using a program like "Revo Uninstaller" and "CCleaner" have worked out well for users who have experienced installation troubles.

Most of the time errors can occur by simply trying to open the program too soon after closing it. CF requires a moment to fully shut down all its processes. Also a simple reboot as stated works too. I know you've tried that.

Completely uninstall the program, deleting the working directories too. And then download a new copy (try a different mirror?). Try installing that and rebooting before logging in.

Also remember that 3rd party programs can create headaches when running or installing the game. Make sure to disable your virus scanner during the installation. Some free scanners detect false positives and corrupt the install.

Lastly, while you did get a response from a GM. Please do not type your posts or thread titles in all caps. We read and get to as many posts as possible. Typing in caps just creates frustration. (I changed the title to something a little more respectful)
