The Definitive Guide of Pub Clan Leadership

Greetings forumers! At the time I am writing this, it is about 3 AM on a Monday night (or should I say a Tuesday morning). My internet has been down for about 12 hours now due to a thunderstorm so I have the benefit of writing this guide in Notepad, which is the most manly word processor. We don't need your fancy layout Wordpad and I'm not forking over money for Microsoft Word either. I could spend that money on more important things like ZP to blow on Deagle scope crates. I just can't get enough of those 3 day sprays.

Chapter 1: Getting Started

The topic for our guide is creating and maintaining a successful pub clan. Now I know what your thinking "Who is this BravesLovesU guy to tell me how to make a successful clan?" Well here are my credentials.

For starters, I have been proud to be the leader of not one, but two clans!

Clan Leader of IDunnoLol: We had an excellent roster of Me, some guy I never heard of who was in the clan for about 20 minutes, and a guy I used to pub ghost mode with, but let me tell you something, that clan was the best 14 hours of my life, no joke.

Clan Leader of raDicaL: This one was even more successful, we actually had a ventrilo. The clan consisted of iTwAsLucK's alt, Quesst, and some Euro I've never heard of, and KitKat was "interested." Let me tell you that was a fantastic 36 hours.

So now that I have shown you all of the success and great times I have had with my clans, Its time to teach YOU the wisdom I gained from my combined 50 hours of clan leadership. Thats over 2 days!

First of all you have to have money if your going to have a good public clan. If you don't believe me, I will give you a template of what you need for the foundation of a good public clan.

-5k GP to start the clan
-12k GP for the clan mark
-At least 10 LT spots. You want to maintain a 1:10 ratio or better of Lieutenants to regular members.
-The clan space expanded to 100 spots.
-Money for a ventrilo or teamspeak server of at least 25 slots (preferably 50)

The in-game stuff alone will cost you 31,200 zp. Which costs about 27 bucks. With that 27 dollars you could get Counter Strike 1.6, an ESEA membership, Half Life 2, and a Snickers Bar, but instead you get to be the leader of a clan in a free to play fps game.

Also, the 50 slot vent server will cost you about 200 dollars over the course of a year.

If you don't have the financial stability to pay for that stuff, its not a big deal! Simply find a friend and tell him/her you want to start a clan with them. Then manipulate them into paying for everything while you maintain the leader spot. Its a win/win if you are willing to sacrifice a friendship, which isn't that painful of a sacrifice because you get to be the leader of a pub clan! Hooray you!

Now that you have money for your clan, its time to use that money, The first step is coming up with a name for your clan. This may seem easy but it is actually a very daunting task. The name of your clan relates directly to its success, so you must chose your clan name wisely.

Here are the Do's and Don't's of clan names

DO

-Include a ™ in your clan name. Clans with a ™ in their name are 28% more sucessful than clans that don't have a ™
-Use the following symbols in your clan name: [ ] _ * Remember, the more of these symbols the better.
-Put "gaming" at the end of your clan name, that six letter word at the end lets other clans know you mean business.
-Put a lowercase letter followed by and uppercase letter (Examples: tG eL sD and so on and so forth)

DON'T

-Hesitate to push caps lock before naming your clan.
-Choose a difficult vocabulary word for your clan name, a good example of this silliness is a clan called .Paradox. No one knows the correct definition of that word. That confusion is why they lost in WOGL to a clan called LifeLine, because I know what those two words mean.

After the name choice the rest of the stuff is easy. The clan symbol is and will always be the headshot mark or the number 01. No exceptions. Your LT's will be your 10 most active players. Your ventrilo server will have 5 pub rooms 3 scrim rooms, a "chill" room, a channel of private rooms for LT's and of course, a music room.

  • Chapter 2: Recruiting Members.

Now that you have your clan all set up you can just wait for all those applications to come in right? Nope. You have to do some advertising so people will be interested. The most effective way is to create a thread in the clan section of the forums.

Here is a great example of an effective clan forum thread
Hey all, I am BravesLovesU. I am leader of clan NUBKILLERZ. We clan all about having fun and pwning noobs. So apply plz!

Notice how short and sweet this post is. At just 21 words this post will appeal to those with short attention spans. Also notice how the post did not include any contact information or the clans page. This is called playing hard to get, if someone wants to be in the clan they will have to earn it by searching "NUBKILLERZ" on the clan page.

The other method is a bit more difficult in my opinion, the forum method is great and all but you must also learn to utilize the other method if you wan't a large legion of members in your clan.

The other method consists of setting your macros to advertise your clan and spamming them in pubs. Preferably SnD, Elimination, or Ghost Mode. Because then people die and have to wait for the next round, this they have nothing better to do than read the chat.

If you are lazy it wouldn't be a bad idea just to put your forum clan into macro form like so:

F5: Hey all, I am BravesLovesU.
F6: I am leader of clan NUBKILLERZ.
F7: We clan all about having fun and pwning noobs.
    F8: So apply plz!

If someone in a pub who happens to speak English instead of Portugese reads your spam chat, then its hook line and sinker baby. They might not join but they most likely will be interested.

Once you have some interest in your clan, you must move on to phase 2, convincing those interested into joining. Here are some ways you can convince them.

-Bring them on to your clan ventrilo and then pay a female to speak into the mic for a few minutes.
-Create clan forums that no one will use and let the interested crossfire player be a forum moderator. Its not like being a moderator of an inactive forum means anything. but It is a good alternative to offering one of your precious LT spots.
-Make sure to put emphasis on what a "chill" clan you are the leader of

If you play your cards right, your clan will be climbing the rankings in no time. The clan ranking is very important, but you should never let anyone know how crucial it is. You should probably go as far as to say "rank doesn't matter" over and over.
  • Chapter 3: Scrimming and Pubbing

Now that you have a clan with a bunch of people including a few loyal LT's its time to relax a little bit and give yourself a pat on the back. If you are morbidly obese like 85% of pub clan leaders, and you cannot physically pat yourself on the back, then I would suggest you get a Big Mac and some fries. You earned it Big Boy.

After you are done putting yourself closer to an early death, its time to get started on improving your clans ranking. Pubbing together is the fastest way to boost your clan rank. So go make a 12 minute Egypt TD room in Alpha with whoever is online at the time and watch those clan points pour in. Hopefully your squad of players can go positive in a pub td. You don't want to embarass yourself.

As the leader of a clan. It is your job to be very vocal about your dissaproval of farming. Mostly because its clans like SNYPERS, ROMANIA, and ... that keep you out of that precious top 10 page.

Scrimming with your clan is a much more complex topic. First of all you must learn the following maps better than the palm of your hand:

    -Eagle Eye
    -Downtown
    -Santoria
    -Castle

All the great pub clans have played countless scrims on these 4 maps. And to think some people prefer Black Widow, pfft.

Another important rule is to only play in the Clan server. Don't even think about going to Echo 8, thats where the cheaters go. I understand that all this talk of maps and location is very confusing, so to help I have set up the ideal scrim for any pub clan.

    Map: Eagle Eye
    Players: 8v8
    Location: Clan Server 1
    Opponent: HEDSHOTBR
    Rounds: 9 on each side

Always try to refer to that when selecting scrims.

You may think that there is not much strategy when it comes to pub clan scrims. You could not be more wrong. For starters, all pub clans must refer to these strats if they want to win in 8v8 clan server scrims.

    FOR BL:
    1. Rush A Site
    2. Rush B site
    3. Rush from Mid to A
    4. Rush from Mid to B

    FOR GR:
    1. 3 A, 2 Mid, 3 B

This complex stratbook is the backbone for successful scrims.

After you have perfected scrimming and pubbing with your clan, the rest of the leadership stuff can be left to your LT's. So sit back and give yourself a pat on the back or a Big Mac and fries.
