Those who have the "Failed to download version.ini error...

I've come across a reason to why some of us are gettin this error. I recently, since I havent been able to play CF since the patch on September 22nd, attempted to download another FPS game called Combat Arms. I downloaded its downloader, and it came across a problem. It said No Internet Connectivity, when I was connected to the internet. Atleast a few days before the patch, my Firefox browser also stopped working, even after reinstalling and everything.

I can use Aim fine, aswell as my IE and Opera browsers. Somewhat of the same error occured when I attempted to play another game called Sudden Attack. It keeps getting errors sayin I cant connect to the server. None of my other friends have this error when they try.

Now I want to ask the people who are having the CF error of "Failed to download version.ini" when attempting to patch their game... Has your Firefox or/and IE browsers stopped working, and what versions of Windows are you running.

I myself and running Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit. My internet says im connected. I can run all browsers fine except for Firefox. Its all runnng fine, except for some reason when im doing certain things, it is telling me im not connected to the internet., when in fact I am.

I want to know if an error/bug like this could prevent us from patching. Once again, I am connected to my internet, but when I try to patch CF, it gives me the "Failed to download version.ini" error. Every other person I have seen with this problem is running Vista Home Basic 32-bit. GMs, reply back if this could be a cause of the error. Community, reply back if you are getting this error, and PLEASE say what type of Vista you are running, or if you are gettin the error on XP.

Im fairly certain this is why we are getting this error. Please reply back. Thanks~ :3

Are you running Vista Home Basic? Home Premium? What?

And good. Im going to look and see what I can find to solve this problem. Give me atleast a few days to mess around and see what I can find.

Found a solution that let me patch the game. Im getting a CF File Watcher error now, but anyway. If you have an old version of the downloader, install the game using that one. Then take a newer setup and install over it in the same file folder.

It wont give you the "Failed to download version.ini" error. If you get an error saying CF File watcher when loading, im currently looking into this.

Hi im new to the forums and all i can say to that reply is -

    IDIOT -.-" !!!

anyways that was only directed to _Sp4wn_
thx for being helpful Zeonic :)
however I highly doubt OMONOGENES ver of Vista OS is the cause of this error because Im running XP Pro (Corp SP2 FYI ^.^) and I myself have received the "Failed to download version.ini error...
Im assuming your not a computer technican by trade but ur just taking up computing as a hobby ? And just volunutrary donating your services to troubleshoot this issue !
Anyways Im a noob and I've just installed Crossfire (I downloaded and installed Crossfire about 3 weeks ago but didnt get the chance to run and have it autoupdate ! )
I just tried running it tonight and after spending about 15mins to download the autoupdates I thought I was in business ! But I received the "Failed to download version.ini error" so thats why Im here !
hmm do z8games have a representative patrolling these forums offering an answer to players that need help ??

    Thx in advance =)

Anywho ! ill try your solution Zeonic when my ISP stops capping my internet and dl the updated installer on the site >.< !
And Zeonic if you want to know how to reformat your PC , I believe _Sp4wn_ was prob jk !
Reformating a PC means your WIPE out everything !! ie a Clean install of Windows !!
Its a last resort when a virus strikes ! But noone in their right mind will do this just because a game wont install ! because it takes a few hours lol
  • Hi :)
I have the same problem in the Warrock - K2 Network Game
And now i know why - the firewall -eg. Eset Smart Security knew this text or patch files - packed by themida - the "packer" - JUST TURN OFF THE ANTIVIRUS AND/OR FIREWALL WHEN ITS DOWNLOADING :)
  • You are correct that I am not a Computer Technician, and that I am taking it up as a hobby, but Sp4wn was actually being serious. I found out how to reformat it, did it, since I dont have anythign I need on my computer, and it is so far going good. Im downloading CF again right now. If I dont get the error, then reformating is the solution to this problem, aswell as the File Forged problem. :D
