I've had both (currently using the 518) and I found the DeathAdder to be a bit big.
The hand never got any rest due to the high angle it was forced to be in, since I rest my wrist on the table.
If you got decent sized hands or sit in a better position then I do, then by all means go for the DeathAdder - its an epic mouse too. -
Ive had the mx518 for almost a year now and have never even thought about buying a different mouse. It performs well and never ****s up in my experience with it.
Ill go look for a cheaper one and edit if i find one.

Saves you a few dollars. -
MX518, Great mouse. Its optical, you can get very easily used to it. Also, Razer's firmwares and drivers sucks whereas Logitech rocks.
Also, Deathadders, liftoff is too high for me (lift off is where you lift the mouse while using and the mouse still tracks in air to a certain extend)
Go for MX518. You wont regret it, atleast I did not. 100%.
I have both, just to let you know. -

thats a good comparison. the 518 is a much better mouse. You're over paying for it if you're paying over $30 though. -

pros
razer drivers now support crossfire (xtrap doesn't think it is a macro program anymore [even though you can use it as one])
hard to accidentally scroll the scroll wheel
cons
forced to use 125hz usbpolling
mx 518
pros
can use higher usb polling rate
cons
xtrap won't let you use setpoint -
I've owned 2 Mx518s. I love them, it's a great mouse, but on both the right mouse button died on me after extensive use. My friends have had them go on them as well.
I'm wearing the paint down on my Deathadder and it's still working perfect.
Edit: pic (bad cellphone camera is bad)

Incorrect, setpoint runs fine with xtrap.
The mouse i currently use is the Logitech G500 (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/5750)
This mouse is the mx518 put into gaming grade laser optics, and i can say that it performs MUCH better than the 518 for mainly one reason, the lift off tracking on the 518 is too much. If your the type of player that picks up your mouse to make quick turns and movements your performance will be decreased as it will continue tracking whilst you lift your mouse. However, if your the type of player that doesn't lock your wrist but instead move your entire arm for movements taking away the need to raise the mouse the mx518 will give you NO problems and is a great mouse for gaming in every aspect.
Check out some reviews online to learn more about how comfortable you would be with the mouse in accordance with how you hold it and etc. -
I was originally used to using a claw grip mouse, and after getting this Deathadder it took me a few weeks to get used to. Drivers are alright... it's a mouse, it does what it's supposed to. So far this is the comfiest mouse I've used, and have no intentions of switching to another. As mentioned before, high polling rates on the deathadder are a no no.
Pros: no hand cramps, easy access thumb buttons for whatever you like, and it glows .
Cons: Bit heavier than other mice, polling rate... smudges easily? Cant think of any more. -
i have a razer imperator and love it... most players do have the deathadder .. its very very popular bc razer is 'for' gaming..
i'd say deathadder
i have a razer imperator also but dont you get the feeling everytime you pick up the mouse and put it down it has like a 1 second delay before it moves again? -
I say Logitech MX518. I have both Razer Deathadder and Logitech MX518.
After I bought Deathadder, I was a little dissappointed. The lift-off distance was too high for me...Also the fact that its slightly bigger for my hands.
I was very impressed with MX518 within the first few minutes I used it.. It is a brilliant mouse.
So my vote goes to Logitech MX518
