kevin, Im not even an admin anymore, And you got banned for pretty much yelling "Fail Admins" Over and over to shaun. You even pmed me saying "Do it with me" So yea, Your dumb. -
There are a lot of reasons these things don't go well. Time isn't taken to develop the foundation to ensure that these events last. Such as:
1) These things take TIME to be prepared and developed. Not days, maybe not even weeks. I'd say a couple months.
2) Staff should NOT be your friends. That will always lead to "relaxing" the rules and setting a bad example.
3) A proper rule set. If you want a rule enforced, write it in the rule set. Take these rules LITERALLY. Don't say to yourself, "Oh, they'll figure that rule out. It's common sense." <--- Wrong. If you want a rule enforced, write it down. Simple.
4) Extension of #3: Once you have that rule set, enforce it 100%. Do not relax rules, do not bend rules. You set the standard. They must follow it or be reprimanded. Be firm, but be fair. You enforce the rules for everyone. If you have to reprimand someone, you provide a warning with a reason. If continuous violation occurs, then you remove them permanently. But provide them a reason. Don't just kick them out and not give them a legitimate reason for the ban.
5) Be professional. Yes, you are here to provide a fun and clean environment for players to enjoy. However, you can not be an Administrator and simply goof off. It's not your place to goof off. You're the boss. Enjoy yourself, but take care of business first.
6) Plan, plan, plan, and plan more. You can not go into this kind of event week in and week out without having EVERY night/event planned out first. If you "wing it" as they like to say, it won't last.
Most important: PUGs are meant to be fun. They are not meant to be competitive. Yes, you can add a degree of competitiveness to it, but overall it's simply to provide a fun environment to play with a better skilled set of players. You let the power trip go to your head and your event will very quickly go down the drain. Be fair, be firm. Have fun, but remember you are the Administrators. Set the standard.
I'm sure there is a lot more I could write up, but it's late. Haha. These things fail too often for lack of planning and lack of proper staff. Among other things. But those two are the main downfalls for PUGs. -
Oh yeah that's one thing I forgot to mention. An anti-cheat. Here's my views:
Sadly, in this game, I think even in a PUG event it should be required. There is a lack of decency in this community. There are just some people that are going to cheat, knowing they're not going to get caught. Plain and simple. Regardless of how "non-serious" PUGs are supposed to be, some sort of anti-cheat is the only way to ensure some sort of honesty and fair game play. I agree a PUG shouldn't have to run one as this is for fun, but there is only so much fun I can have when some people out there cheat regardless of the rules. -
