A way to minimize lag?

I SHOT YOU 4 TIMES AND IT SAYS I DIDN'T HIT YOU!!!!! GRRRRRR!!!!!

I know we've all felt this way, but recently I turned on blood to see if I was imagining things. I swear I'm not. It doesn't happen all the time, but about 1/3 or more of 1v1 encounters I notice a few puffs of blood coming off my target (sometimes that blood gets on the walls and I KNOW I'm not making it up), but when that target kills me the info meter registers no damage done.

Occasionally, I'll get in a match and completely dominate (41-13 Train TD the other day), and I don't notice any uncounted shots. Everyone always calls lag kills on me, even though everybody's connection seems the same as when its the other way around.

I have the highest speed internet available in my area: 15 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. I get consistent in-game pings of 53-57, rarely outside that window. I notice this issue most when I'm playing others pinging in the range of 120-180 ms (the grand majority of players, say 80%). I never notice this issue versus someone who's pinging very high (>400 ms) or very low (<80 ms), normally I knock them out without difficulty.

Yeah, its a lot of detail, but THIS PROBLEM THOROUGHLY IRRITATES ME. I was wondering if there's anything I can do to minimize the lag probs. My comp is a bit old, but I turn framerates around 35-40 fps.

Is this just me?
