Remember when CF was meant for low end PCs?

When I bought my PC back in 2014 I used to have 200 fps in CF. Now, 6 years later I have 90-120. And it feels like I'm playing at 30 fps. In every other game, like Csgo and LoL it gives the same performance as before. Only in CF seems to struggle. Btw my pc is well maintained regularly by me.
I also checked the game suggested requirements and I saw they changed. Apparently CF now needs higher specs to run smoothly. But why is that? There are literaly 0 actual graphic inovations. Only new content, which seems to have made the game "heavier".

CF is a 13 year old game. It started as a game for low spec pcs and should remain one. Optimize your game. It is absurd having stutters and framedrops for no reason.

  • Funny fact. When u have a fresh installed windows. Download cf and install. The cf folder is around 8/9 GB. And i would say minimum 1GB are so old files that cf even doesnt need anymore. Like .png files of the old chinese blackmarket or backgrounds of the chinese cf1.0 version....
  • i guess they figure people aren't still using the same computer they played with 13 years ago or even still playing the game. not like I am, i just started playing yesterday.
  • You should take into account two fundamental aspects:

    1. Updates + updates + updates... CrossFire receives monthly updates. New updates = new content = More information that needs to be rendered on the client-side. If the game doesn't optimize this, the game will be slower every time. CrossFire REZ files (textures, sounds, maps, skins, effects, meshes, and other game content) still have the contents of the old CrossFire (1.0). CrossFire has a lot of content for an old game engine.

I agree with you. CrossFire West has a lot of FPS drop and stutters lately.

    You're not the only one.

    2. Electrical components/circuits degrade over time, especially from our motherboard (example: condensers). It may have a minor or significant impact on performance. However, the lifespan of a computer, the performance, really is on the software. It must take other factors into account, such as excess temperature, excess current or voltage, dust, moisture. Etc.

Don't expect an old computer to work the way it did when it was new. From 2014 to 2020 are six (6) years. It will depend on the use you have given it.

The fact is that, as I said in the OP, my PC is in a very good shape, I clean it completely every 3 months and check every part's performance. Only difference after 6 years is for example 10-20 lower fps in CSGO and a bit higher temperature. But other than that the performance is almost the same and pretty much no big changes except of CF.

I also disagree with the concept of your thread, because it doesn't matter what PC you have, pretty much everyone has stutters and freezes, even newest systems with huge specs. The problem is client sided and it must be addressed by the developers.
The question is what are they doing? For me they only seem to add new content and do zero improvements. It's embarrassing treating the game that made them millionaires like this and giving us the mid finger everytime, because after every issue they seem to think that we will just get used to it and there is no need for a fix.

CF is a great game, but the treatment it gets is disappointing.
  • Haze2k19...

I understand your point and as SirPanoCFES said the updates have a big affect on the
    client-side.

Crossfire is a game that is a money making machine.... the new content for players is there to try to get them to buy ZP.

The new maps are to encourage players to stay interested, but the content like crates and VIP stuff is to get players to spend money to get ZP.

If you enjoy playing Crossfire there is nothing wrong with buying things to make yourself feel better when playing.

But the content will not stop being added and like you said the game will get " heavier " ( nice wording )
  • I wouldn't say CrossFire's code base was ever "exceptionally optimized". There were always some kind of bug, like how you need the vote kick system to reach 10 agreements to actually have someone out of a full game, or getting kicked out of a ZM match when you were on top of a player character for too long. It would be silly to suggest that Z8Games and in part, SmileGate, don't have the resources to resolve this since this has been running for over a decade (let alone 4 years, which has determined a F2P game's success)

As unfortunate as it would appear, the answer to this is you take what you can get. In leaving and coming back every once in a while, you can get the amusement of seeing what changed, but you acknowledge that most of these adjustments will never be resolved.
