Free crates have worse chance to win rare items. Why do you think they give hundreds of dollars of free "content" away?

it was just lucky,i dont spend money on game and i have over 30 zp guns...all i win in event,last win is rudolph helmetin saturday,amr338 zapher snip ast event,gold hammer last event...i win berett noble in 1 create olso event...is just lucky..maybe higher rank win easyer..just maybe

Friend of mine saved close to 300 event crates to open them all at once, I asked him jokingly if he really wants to experience all this disappointment at once, didn't win anything and hasn't really played since. (*) never forgetti
I didn't win anything in over 1000 crates during black firday, then some crates got very good win rates and you're very likely to win something easily. From my experience, those re-released crates with "rare" or very sought after items tend to have the biggest rip off rate, while those that stay in the black market and aren't limited tend to have relatively good once most of the time.

i have spent around 6k+ dollars to win what i have on my account. the more you spend the more you win. no trick. recently spent 150$ won nothing off christmas crates. sad.
