How does rank decay work?

I heard people achieved diamond rank then got downgraded to platinum rank after a while of not playing ranked match.
So, how does rank decay work?
You have to play in x number of days or you loose points. How many days are diffrent for every rank i think. But if you play every day or every other day, it doesn't really matter. It's there so a player, can't just speed rise to the rank they wan't and stop playing, so there is no chance of losing ranks.
It didn't work well with HMX ranked, the last season, As the highest ranking players stopped playing when they were in the top-100 range, making it almost impossible for us others to keep playing HMX ranked. What they didn't count on, was that to get the top-100 price, you first have to reach Master rank. It does not matter if you are Diamond-rank, and within the Top-100, then you only get the price for Diamond.
I watched with glee as the idiots cryed over not getting the price they tought they were gonna get. As their not playing, made me stuck at first Platinum and then downgraded to gold, because of not finding any matches. I had to begin S&D Mid season and almost live infront of my PC to get 250 wins in time.JackPain (Sweden) -
You can derank for inactivity only if you are higher than gold 6.
Platinum limit is 2 weeks before deranking and if you don't play 1 game for two weeks and derank then the limit will change to 1 week and will stay like that until you play one game.
Diamond, Master and Grand master limit is one week.
You will always get a message when there are 3,2,1,0 day/s before deranking if you open the mode on ranked tab.
I can tell from experience that when you derank you lose points based on your rank, its usually one level and half so lets say if you are platinum and a platinum level is 100 points then you will lose 150 points no matter if you are platinum 1 or platinum 6. Same goes for master, if you are master and master level is 150 then you will lose 225. -
