He made a terrible mistake by switching between crates though, it lowers your chance of winning according to my experience. You only do this when you have a lot of trash crates to increase the luck gauge and open a few crates you really want when the lucky gauge is at its max.
If you just auto-spin 150 crates non-stop then the chance of winning is pretty high. I'd say 80% of winning. Anyway, the win rate is still super-shiet. -
The only time i had that bad luck was with the special 3 GP weapons crate, about a month or so ago. About 500 crates until the first win, then 350 to the next, which was the same sniper rifle. When i bought ZP-crates in as large a quantity as 50, i have always won. It's when you have less then 50 crates it's a bit tricky to win, atleast for me. I only think i've won once or twice with 30 crates and 0 times from smaller packs and that is both at EU and West. Still i guess i've been lucky.
Since transfering to west, I only buy crates to get coupons, when there are new weapons in the coupon shop. Otherwise it's a waste of money. If they don't have some special sale, that is. The winning rates are simply to low for the price of ZP. To justify the rates, the ZP would have to cost a tenth of what it does now. Up the rates or less and less people will stop buying the crates until the income for West is almost 0.JackPain (Sweden) -

I won 2 cops back to back from the ep mall , and i also spent $100 on the slug crate and won nothing. It really is luck based and random af. When im spinning to win a weapon i dont win anything, but when i spin thinking "hey the rates are poop, i know i wont win" , i win some times lol idk it happens and you know that before you buy the crates. There are no guaranteed wins -
