Why can't we bump old threads?

What does this mean when a moderator or someone tells you "Please do not bump old threads."? Are we loosing points for doing it or something?

It's against the forum rules to bump old threads/posts. So if you want to discuss about a topic and it isn't already post by someone within the last week period then create a new thread to talk about it.

Whenever a forumer post a new comment within a thread, this one appears in the top of the thread list since it has a new comment entry.
We should avoid adding new comments within an old post if theres nothing else to discuss. We dont lose points but you get a MOD warning for doing this.

Ok... i did not know that, i had to Google search the whole "Necroposting" thing because until this date... i never heard of it.

I did not knew that, my bad... But wouldn't it make more sense to close a post when it no longer is used after that period of time ("within the last week period")


And besides, doesn't that consume more server resources?
