The bar shows your time in comparison to the server time and shows what time the event will end for you. "In progress" means the event is currently happening. It gives you a count down of when the event starts as well. For example, if the event started in an hour, the bar would say "Event starts in 1 hour"

So while the event may end on Sunday server time, it might actually end on a Saturday for other players.
