How to double jump?

I saw online you press space, before you land, press space again, and then ctrl. I am doing it and it is not working...

You have to:
To double jump in front of you hold W and do the routine you stated in the post.
T

o double jump to a box on your left you hold A and do the routine you stated in the post.

The same thing works if you want to do it for the right side and the back side.

Yeah this is what I am trying to do, but I cannot get the second jump to show up. If I click space, no matter how many times I click space again during the jump my character will not jump up again. I am pressing W against the box, then pressing space, then spamming space in the air, and my guy just falls to the ground. How do you get the second jump to show up? I have to wait for my character to jump up again in the air before I press ctrl, and right now she is not doing that.
