1.- Download Game Booster, install it and press Switch to Game Mode.
    Download Game Booster here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Game_Booster_d5952.html

2.-Download Advanced System Care Pro and Clean Up your PC.
Download Advanced System Care Pro here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GU5EHH9L

    3.-Defrag all your PC.

4.-Go to C/ Z8games/CroosFire/Rez/UI/ and delete a folder called Mark.

5.- Delete all your innecesary programs.

    Hope I help you ^_^ :)

Another thing that will surely help (but requres being tech savvy) is modyfying your registry.

    OPTION 1

1.- go into start->run->type "regedit.exe" without the quotes and press enter

    2.- Go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

3.- Delete all startup processes you don't need to (MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING AS THIS IS NOT REVERSIBLE)

you can check out google for the app names so you know what they are for, hence which ones do you need and which ones you don't. It will surely free up system resources to help play a little better!

    OPTION 2

1.- Download and install Ccleaner (google it it's everywhere)

2.- go to cleaner and run , cleaning all unnecesary temp files etc (100% SAFE)

3.- go into registry and make a complete clean of issues until you can't find more (100% SAFE)

4.-go into tools then startup and delete all processes you don't need so it won't slow down your system. (YOU NEED TO BE AS CAREFUL AS IF YOU WERE EDITING THE REGISTRY HERE.) Google the app names so you know what they are for if you have to.

This will surely help a LOT speeding up your system. You can also combine OPTION 1 along with OPTION 2 (option 2, steps 1 to 3 only) so you get better results. If you don't want to install any extra programs then option 1 alone is your best choice.

    Hope this helps a bit.
  • This game isn't very system demanding; if you can't get 30FPS+ on low or medium at a reasonable resolution, then your PC is old. When I mean old it's at least 7+ years old. Technology keeps getting better an better every 6 months basically.

When I say this game isn't very demanding, I'm comparing to all the other computer games out there...Crysis/Crysis Warhead, AvP, DiRT2, Metro 2033, Batman:Arkham Asylum, etc. If you've played these games, you'll know even some $600+ custom built PCs can't run some of the named on medium and get higher than 30FPS.
Anyways, I've realized that CF does not use more than 2(or 3) CPU cores. It's a processor-reliant game. With that said, a faster clocked frequency dual-core will run this game better than a lower frequency quadl/six-core. It also does not require a high-end graphics card (aka GPU) to run at max.

Basically, a brand new $300-$400 computer (dual-core, 3-4GB of RAM) with a $50 graphics card(like the Radeon HD 4650 for an example) will allow you to run this game at max and get 60FPS+.
  • the best method (windows)for me was

going into computer-> advanced system settings -> advanced tab -> performance area click on settings -> click on adjust for best settings.

that made crossfire run way smoother...it's a lifesaver.

I absolutely understand what you mean about tech specs since this game runs at 120+ FPS at my PC, and that's because i have a liquid cooling system along with a GTX 580 and that's a total overkill for the game. (you should see metro 2033@DX11 with those specs) however, I do believe there is a lot of players who are not that lucky and have a lot lower system on their end.

But regardless of the hardware. It's the software and stupid windows xp/vista/7 what we want to speed up here. I'm sure you should have seen a total startup mess on a PC someday on your life on a friends', sister, cousin, nephews' or even childs' etc. The point is helping out isn't it?

Talking about dual core and above; Actually there is a thread somewhere around here that explains disabling the second core (affinity 1) which will help performance in the sense of that mouse getting frozen for a few seconds or the left click becoming stuck for a few seconds(dk if it has happened to you but it has for me) after I disabled affinity for core 2 it worked flawlessly with no more ocurrences on my end.

I know many others here are not as fortunate as we are (btw, GTX580 nice!) and have old..PC, but c'mon now, a 7-10 year old computer?!

Software can be a reason why you are getting less FPS because of all the applications running in the background like:
    - Anti-Virus
    - bloat ware from OEM brands (DELL, Acer, HP, Gateway, etc)
    - "Bonjour" from iTunes

    Cleaning up the hard-drive like:
    - Disk Clean up
    - Disk Defragment
    - Spyware/virus scanning
    - Registry files
    - removing unsed/useless software/applications
    - reinstalling your operating system
Will only improve your FPS, but to a small extend. It's not like you'll get 20FPS+ more by doing this; more like ~5. If you are already getting like getting 15-20 fps now, 5 more isn't going to help too much.

By the way, I don't see how disabling the 2nd core will actually improve performance. My old dual-core PC uses both cores (1st core basically 100% load while 2nd core is at ~40% load) to run CF. Wouldn't disabling the 2nd core acutally lower your performance?

EDIT: Nevermind, I looked into Affinity...interesting indeed! I might try it on my other PCs and see if it improves performance. Probably won't do anything for my six-core though haha.
  • I want to ribbons!!

    oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

yeah, can you believe it!!! GTX580 just to play CF haha jk of course I give myself the chance tto play all other actual demanding games. Hey and thanks for checking into affinity and making that edit XD
  • Rofl, gamebooster lowers my fps. I used advanced system cares turbo boost.
  • it up to your computer :D if you get a good Graphic card and RAM

As I stated before, you don't need a $200+ graphics card and high speed DDR3 2100MHz RAM to run this game. By the way, high frequency RAM will only have a small amount of performance improvement.

    Look:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ram-speed-tests,1807-8.html
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i7-870-1156,2482-8.html

As you can ALSO see, lower RAM speed/frequency+tighter timmings provides better performance than higher frequency+looser timings. My DDR3 RAM @1333-7-8-7-20-1T runs almost as my RAM @1666-9-10-9-24-1T.

I'm using a $200+ graphics card, and my cousin is using a $50 card and we get similar FPS. Why? My graphics card doesn't need to work 100% to run this game; it barely even tries. It's like...driving a Ferrari in a 50mph city.
  • I'll try, I hope it works, my fps is a chit
