Crossfire In-Game Widgets!! :) [Tutorial]
PLEASE RATE THIS GUIDE OR TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK OF THE GADGET IDEA! =]
Okay so i was playing around with Windows 7 and opened crossfire ... I had noticed that by accident i had sidebar gadgets showing up and it looked really good so i thought I'd post a picture and a tutorial on how to put them onto your game
The pictures are small so you can't see the percentage of the CPU meter but it is very clear in game
So thats what it looks like. I now have a weather gadget AND a CPU monitor gadget that i can view in-game! I think it’s very useful but you can judge for yourself :P
How to do it is VERY simple!
Requirements
- Windows 7
- A monitor with a high enough pixel count so that the gadgets don’t get in the way of other things you do on the computer
- Gadgets must be open. To open them click “Start” >> “All Programs” >> Desktop Gadget Gallery. Once there, drag and drop your preferred gadgets to the desktop.
Note: Windows vista WILL NOT work and neither will Windows XP
Steps
1. Pick the gadgets you want to use (Don’t pick stupid ones that will but you, remember these will be on top of every window, and also don’t pick gadgets that require a mouse to use [ex. Puzzles])
2. Move these gadgets to the right side of the screen until they lock into place (you’re going to have to adjust the height of them so that they fit perfectly in game. Look at my first picture, they are off to the side and will not block my view of anything important)
**Notice how the gadgets are on the side and away from everything else? That way they don’t bug me while I’m doing other things like word processing / browsing, even though they aren’t needed they can be useful!**
3. THIS STEP IS IMPORTANT!! Make sure that you go to all of your gadgets, right click on them and select “Opacity” and click on “40%”.
**Set the opacity to 40% so the solid colours won’t distract you from what you’re doing**
Setting them to 40% opacity is just my preference, if you like it more you can set it to 60% but don’t go to 80%. The reason I set it to 40% is so that you can see the gadgets clearly in game and the solid / bright colours won’t bug you.
**Notice that even at 40% the gadgets look good and remain subtle**
4. Finally make sure that you’re gadgets remain on top of everything else. After selecting the gadgets you want (preferably CPU usage, Weather, or a Picture slideshow). Once you have picked the maximum of 2 gadget that you would like to display, right click on each gadget and click on “Always on top”.
**After setting this option the gadget will appear on top of all windows (including Crossfire!)**
Okay thats all there is to it! I know that pretty much all of you will not be used to this but like me will quickly adapt and will find out that these gadgets can really be useful. I always find myself looking at the CPU meter or checking the weather!
And if you don’t like them the way they are ... well just do these steps backwards lol it’s not that hard.
ENJOY!!
