How to play on a window screen

I was just wondering since I can change the size of the game thing into a window why can't I change it when I'm playing the game so I can do other stuff and not have to quit the game to do stuff so I can minimize the game screen then come back is this possible if not please take it in to consideration.

personally i use alt+tab

In windows vista, at least, they have alt-tab blocked. It won't let me tab out of a game or even ctrl+esc to pull up the start menu.

I have vista but it lets me alt tab
