i myself use fraps (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING THIS IN HALF SCREEN MODE)
it saves and gives less FPS lag than in full screen, but it sacrifices quality. but just render a video on HD and your fine.

If your comp can handle it I would suggest Fraps.
But IMO I have used the trial version of PlayClaw Its easy on your computer
and the quality is just as good as fraps if not better.
Although you have to pay for it atm im sure there will be a torrent for it soon.
I can't record and play with fraps but i can with PlayClaw.

I just downloaded it today, but if you just want to record and produce a montage without any special effects, or just a quickclip, try adobe captivate I'm pretty sure it records and produces
