Twas[S]our's Sniping Guide

Twasour's Sniping Guide

Seeing as everybody is posting a guide, I'll do so too.

To start off, let's go over the weaponry. In my Sniping Bag, I have:

1. AWM
2. Desert Eagle C
3. Flash Grenade
4. Grenade

The AWM of course, Is my sniper rifle, because of the 1 shot kill. The Deagle is my secondary, when I'm being rushed, I would pull that out. The Flash is for when I need to get away, so I flash whoever is shooting me, pull out my knife, and run.
I hope you know what the grenade does.

Tactics

Basics

The Map. Know it. Know where a potential enemy will pop out, know where the best sniping spots are. Know where you can hightail it if the fighting gets too intense.

Camping. I'm not really fond of the snipers who pick a place, crouch, and wait for someone's head to pop out. Mostly because it leaves you vulnerable to attack from all the sides you aren't watching. Also, I associate a skilled sniper with their ability to be mobile. I don't "Camp", instead I pick an area with less than 4 openings (Places where an enemy might pop out), and move around that area until I kill someone. Then, I would pull out my Deagle, and run (Once you kill someone, that's a beacon to his teammates, and they will come flooding down on your position).

Practice. The best map to practice sniping on, is Egypt. This is because of the close quarters, where you must have quick reflexes in order to get kills. It basically prepares you for any of the situations you will face as a sniper.

Weaponry. I've heard some people say,
Practice with the m700, and you'll get better.

I don't find that true. After practicing with the m700 for 5 games, and then returning to the AWM, I was unused to how heavy it was, and it's slow firing rate. My advice? Play with the weapon you'll actually use.

Habits. Never keep going to the same spot, or the opposing team will become wary, not venturing into where they think you will be. That in turn, makes you less effective. Also, try to understand the habits of the other team. Learn who rushes B, who snipes from A ect.

Black List vs. Global Risk

If you are a new sniper, definitely go GR. They have the most\best sniping spots, and technically they "defend" A/B site, making it easier on you, because you'll see them before they see you. Blacks List on the other hand, have the task of "rushing" the sites, and planting. So, that means you will be blundering into areas most likely watched over by a sniper, that knows where you will most likely show up.

Gun Switching

This is a tactic I use, where I loose off a shot with my sniper rifle, and If it doesn't hit, I press Q > Space-bar + W/A/S/D > Q. The effect of this is, the first "Q" switches you to your secondary weapon (Knife/Pistol), space bar + W\A\S\D makes you jump in another direction to avoid bullets, and Q switches back to Sniper Rifle, so you can get another shot in.

PreAim

This tactic is pretty simple, you put your cross hair where you think a possible enemy might show up, move your crosshair a little to the left\right to account for movement and lag. Then just wait for someone to show up.

Mouse Settings

With the sniper rifle, most prefer low mouse sensitivity settings, to give them more control over the crosshair. Personally, with a Logitech Wireless Mouse, my settings are:

Normal: 20
Zoom: 20

Tape

Some people advise to put tape in the middle of the screen, and then put a dot where the crosshair is. I don't do it, because it throws off my natural aim, and I find myself getting the dot on the enemy before scoping, which takes longer.

Long Range

The sniper rifle's advantage lays in long range shootouts. This is because, while other rifles lose power as they shoot farther, the sniper rifle's power stays the same. Also, you have a less likely hood of being hit (I hope you can work the reason out on that) long range. Your main enemy here, is a well thrown grenade.

Me: Personally, I keep to long range if I can, but I don't object to occasionally rushing.

Medium Range

If your a skilled sniper you still hold the upperhand, but the likeliness of being hit is much greater. Here, you'll have to rely on your pistol a little more than the sniper rifle. Try not to get into extended fights, if you use up a clip, don't reload, pull your pistol and Run/Fight. Don't get caught reloading, don't take any chances, reload behind a crate.

Short Range

Here, the rifler holds all the advantages, a faster rate of fire, faster reload, and a bigger target to shoot at (That goes both ways). Unless you prefer to noscope (Not scoping, and aiming in the general direction of the target), your pistol is probably best suited for this.

The End

If you didn't like the guide, you could at least thank me for putting my time into this. ;)
