Australian/Oceanic Servers
Hi everyone,
Over the last 6 months I have seen many Australian's players and players from Oceanic country's playing Crossfire. As I cannot tell by any means how many exactly login each day, I feel Australians and people close to Australia should have a server closer for our better gameplay.
Even for countries like Malaysia would benefit from this closer server and I know for a fact that HEAPS of people play Counter Strike Source everyday on Sydney servers.
Hell, Bigpond GameArena would probably even support Crossfire and make it more accessible for Australians who are not yet informed.
I know that you have just established and released a UK server but my question is will an Australian server or a server near Australia be considered in the future?!
Please share your opinion!
Cheers,
Hiyoal

Hi,
Every game I've played that last 5 years I see this come up. With the number of gamers that now exist down under one would only think from a business standpoint more companies would set up shop down there.
Curious, how are you guys pinging to the west coast server? I know I ping in at 140 on the UK server and I play just fine as a rifle man.

We do appreciate the enthusiasm from our players from all different countries.
And we understand that there will always be a desire from people who want a server in whatever country they are from, especially now that we've released a UK server.
However currently there are no plans to release servers in any other countries. There are many factors that go into putting a server up in another country and licensing is going to be one of those factors.
Please understand that just because we put a server in the UK doesn't mean we will be adding one to every country in the world. We are sorry if this causes inconvenience with any players, and we thank you for your patience while we continue to add features and improve the game. -
Off topic but my company host rFactor (racing sim) down under, and we have over 40 clients from Australia alone. If more people with other games would put servers there they would be making some serious bank. But I will say it is somewhat costly to have a server there, maybe more than anywhere else b/c of shipping it there and paying a datacenter setup fees, as well as an out of country tax there. But we still make very good money from that server alone.

Yea, thats completely understandable! I was definitely not saying put one up now since the UK Server had been released, simply just asking was it a mere possibility for the near/far future.
All I was really putting across was that there is no real "Localised" server for nations residing near Australia. The closest being the West Coast server which is what I believe to be in California.
From what I have seen there is a rather large population of people playing near the Australian Region. There are many Phillipino players, Australian players, Malaysian players, New Zealand Players and some Vietnamese and Thai players which make up a significant amount of the players on the West Coast Server. Average pings will generally vary from 130-200 from the majority of people.
If there was a server more local to these people I would assume that income would increase for Z8Games (purely calculated on people I have played with on West Coast) and more people would be interested in the game itself (hence more people would join in the fun!)
Also to others who aren't from Australia, I live in Melbourne Victoria and experience either 170ping or 205ping depending on some random weird thing...Like, some games I get 205Ping average and the next room I join I will get 170.
But thanks for the responses, keep em coming!

It's been my dream that there would be an australian server (right next to my house preferably ), but I seriously doubt that it will happen. Despite the people you talk to, we aren't that large a market on the grand scheme of things, although you might be right about an Australian server increasing popularity around Oceania which again is unlikely to be a major selling point.
I'd say its more likely that we get a BR server... good ping or good game, which would you chose...
No offense to legits BR's
