Strange FPS problem.

Hello.

I have a strange problem with my FPS. Even though the FRAPS counter will show 100+ at a time, the FPS I'm getting seems more like 40. It's nowhere near as smooth as even 60FPS on other games like CS:S or L4D.

It was especially noticeable when I recently played CF on my old computer that has a GeForce 6150 inbuilt. When it got to 60, it was perfectly smooth. Just like CS:S etc on this computer at 60FPS.

Any fix for this? I've got a great system, AMD Phenom Triple Core 2.3GHz overclocked to 2.6GHz, ATi Radeon HD4650 1GB overclocked from 400/400 to 700/500, 3GB DDR2 RAM. Nothing overheats, the CPU runs at 38C under full load, and the GPU runs at 70C full load (my card can get up to 100C). Drivers are up to date.

It reduces my FPS and raises my ping. It does the opposite of what it's supposed to do.

what about tuneup utilities 2010[/color]?
i know it's not free, just download the trial, boost your computer and use it till it expires(turbo mode rocks, right click on tray and turn on turbo mode)

That's for boosting FPS. My FPS is fine, I get 100+ in an 8v8 on max detail. It's just that 100FPS feels really laggy. There's an underlying problem somewhere, I can feel it.

**** *cough* not that I would know or anything... You could always try youtube for tuneup utuilities though... Also try a reformat of your computer. That always helps.

1. Why suggest I'm using a **** when this isn't related to anything?
2. I just went through this.
3. This is a last resort.

100fps and fps lag
very weird
are you sure your fps don't get lower?
try playing and pressing tab when u feel the lag and check ur fps

Xfire FPS overlay, FRAPS FPS overlay and the in-game tab FPS counter all display the same.

I'm not too sure where this one might be coming from.

While FPS and Ping are completely unrelated they both can have an effect on the "feel" of the game when its played.

So ping spikes or people with extreme lag in game might have the effect of reducing your fps when its actually not.

I'm stretching on that answer though. We're aware of some fps issues with smoke grenades and voodoo grenades, and some general server issues with a lot of people online. But as to a specific cause for this one I'm not too sure.

It's definitely not ping. I can tell the difference. This is when I'm moving the mouse around, aiming.

My friends go same problem, hes got 4650 and he get 20-30 FPS now...

I also have a feeling that your card is bit too much overclocked....

CPU is overclocked ok but, have you tested it properly and made sure its stable?

It's completely stable, even when I underclock it, it was still the same, just less FPS shown.
Also, CCC is fully up to date, version 10.2

first will people stop telling peopel to use gamebooster! the program is worthless for any one with a descent system..

2nd... can u generate a log of GPU temp during game play? You might be running too hot in crossfire. it would not surprise me cause the Cf graphics engine is HORRIBLY un-optimized.

if u cant get a log try setting your gpu temp alarm to go off at what you thing is acceptable.. maybe 80-100c...... see if it triggers in Cf but not in other games....................

THE only other thing i can think of would be a monitor refresh rate issue which you prob got flatscreen so that would not be it. It might be worth swapping monitors just for a test tho even tho it is unlikely the prob.
