Hey, Step2 connection problem

Hey, my brother blocked crossfire on my computer today because i stopped his download on accident..
and now when i try to join a server (alpha, west coast etc.) it gets stuck on Step2 and then comes up with the message "MM server connection failed" and freezes.
I tried disabling the firewall completely and restarting MANY times and nothing has changed.. he doesn't live at our house so he wont be back for ages. Anyone tell me how to enable crossfire again? would reinstalling help?

ack. i would just reinstall crossfire. give that a try.
as an admin i know many ways to annoy you, so changing thousand things is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
reinstall, check the firewall, still doesnt work, then call ur bro and tell him fun is over.:mad:

Tryed other games to see if it was just crossfire (Chinese crossfire and Combat arms) and they both come up with similar errors (cant connect to server) Re-installing crossfire as we speak but i doubt its going to do anything. anyone got any other ideas?

Hosts file is incorrect: go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and open the hosts file with notepad. make sure to delete from the list there anything with no "#" in front of the line and that has anything with the name GameGuard in it in any variation. In fact the only 2 entries that are commonly there are "127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost" if only those two are present then you should be ok. (For vista users make sure you open the hosts file by right clicking on the file and selecting "run as administrator" to make sure you can save.)

last advise i could give about that. check the host file, crossfire shold not be in there.
and again, then call ur bro. so many possible faults and fakes.
tell him, u break his xBox, put milk in his car ventilation and call his girlfriend to ask for the other girls name he sometimes meets. i mean, he declared war, so he gets one. just be convincing.:cool:

Thanks for the help but that doesn't work either. Going to ring him tonight because I really wanna play crossfire >_<
