Squelchy sound in headphones

This sound only occurs when playing crossfire, however it does not occur all the time. It is audible during actual game play, and certain menu areas such as black market and opening crates. If you are on the select server or channel list or the main area for the channel the sound does not occur. The source has been narrowed to crossfire itself so please don't say install driver updates etc. as that has already been done.
