I don't know what mod powers the Z8 forums give you, so I don't know if you can temp ban.
And as a mod, you represent the company as a whole (in their eyes, at least). So if they have a problem with Z8 Games (missing ZP, GP, weapons, too much lag, etc. etc.) they'll come and tell it to you -

hmm, then what would i do if they were flaming and trolling then? just close all the threads they start or post in lol? and what? i'll need to remember what to say in each situation when something goes wrong for a player or what? -

Depends on the situation. Hack spammers, blatant flaming and racism etc. needs to be stopped immediately. But in some cases, like when a normal player really feels that they've been hard done by, I prefer to talk to them, calm them down, try to explain what we and Z8 can do to help them. Instantly locking and/or banning does seem totalitarian in those circumstances.
Also, it does help quite a lot if you know the game and it's problems well. If you can answer most questions and help with most problems (in some cases a Support Ticket is all that's needed, but sometimes they need further help) then you'll be of great assistance to Z8, and therefore a good Mod. -

Well, it's more about purpose than offense. If somebody actually has a big, genuine problem (lost a lot of ZP etc.) then I'll let then rage, and try to help. But if it's clear that somebody is just raging to annoy people and/or disrupt the forums, then I would put an abrupt end to it (via forum powers, thread locking at first and then infractions or bans on the person if necessary).
Learning about the game and problems: read quite a lot on the forums
Technical Support is where you'll find the problem; try and remember the solutions to the more common problems.
There is a list of Common Suggestions in the suggestion forum; learn it off by heart so you don't have too many threads for those Suggestions cluttering the forums.
Other than that, have a look through the other sections and try to stay updated. -

And Moderating is fun and tiring at the same time. If you have past experience moderating public fourms, its a huge plus + you know what it's like :P
