  • The problem reside in your PC protection - once your PC protection detect a file change will block that file like forever (most antiviruses based on avast technologies act this way - even you disable the antivirus ) !

The solution is to completly uninstall your current antivirus and restart PC ( just temporary until you finish to install and update crossfire)

Now fresh install crossfire game - DON'T run just yet - check your windows defender settings and add crossfire to exceptions (in the absence of any antivirus this windows default protection became active )

Game should be able to start and update to latest version

At this point after game can run - you may install your antivirus back and ADD crossfire game location to antivirus exceptions ( so next game update will not be blocked )

    HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Oh okay I will give that a try, i will uninstall my Anti-virus, Happy New Year to you too. I will quote you when I try this
  • It still didn't work, I did everything you said and nothing has worked so far :/
  • any error message you get ?

It is the same error message, I've tried everything so far
  • Those are my steps when i need to reinstall cf:

    1. Disable / uninstall antivirus (dependint on antivirus type) - restart PC
    2. Uninstall cross fire + delete remaining files from crossfire location, ALSO go to: My Documens\Cross Fire - delete .dat files (or all files if you don't have importan prinscreen and saved games there)
    3. I use Andvanced System Care 11 to scan and fix lots of windows problems ( temp files, reg errors .. etc)
    4. Start crossfire installer as administrator (right click - choose run as administrator) - and install crossfire game to a different partition (just don't use C:\ ... )
    5. Now is time the new crossfire location to be added to windows defender exceptions and any other antivirus you are using
    6. after that game should start and update normally

Else i suspect you have some restrictive programms, or your account don't have administrator rights - because after all those steps windows and antivirus should not have any ideea of previous version of crossfire.exe

so i tried last night and my game just randomly worked, now I get the error 'Your client is invalid version. Re-install the latest version.' but I know if I re-install I will get the other error..
  • your cf game was not completely update , some files as version.ini contain old info version ( best case scenario )

check other topics on forum how to fix that error - solution described there may work to you also.
Still getting the same File is changed error :/

i have the same error bro and i tried everything out...
    not working at all...
  • I installed and re-installed the game the entire day.... I do not have anti-virus and i turned my firewall off. I choosed ''Run as admin.'' everytime it still didn't do it, really loosing it ! Also choosed different partitions, i pretty much did everything it says on forums. Had a look into the folder where CF is installed and there's no .ini file, what the heck ?
  • 1. In the absence of any other antivirus program - windows defender became active, this one can be acces through control pannel in order to add crossfire location to exceptions list

    2. Even so i will perform an external hdd scan (to be sure there is no other suspect infections ) using a bootable USB memory stick or CD/DVD , tutorial how to create-it: https://www.bitdefender.com/support/how-to-create-a-bitdefender-rescue-cd-627.html

    3. Last chance ( if you did all knowing solution you found and still not work ) : save your important data from C:\ ( usually print, documents .. ) and FRESH REINSTALL your WINDOWS while ERASING C:\ in the process (don't reinstall over the old version) , also use default windows option : Language English/US , keyboard US , then install/update drivers and update windows - is a must.

P.S. Other then that i don't see any solutions at this point - supposing you carefully follow each step you found on forum until now ....

the new launcher/patch seems to have fixed everything, thanks for all your help <3
