a way cap fps
i was wondering is there a way to cap fps?
i would like my fps to be 100 at all times. as it is currently my fps goes from 110-800 or so as i move around the maps.
this causes my sensitivity to be really really fast or really slow. i would like to just cap it at 100 fps (below the lowest i ever get) this way my sensitivity is always the same.
please help
so far i thought of using like fraps or something (please let me know if this works)
also i thought of using vertical sync on my graphics card to sync my fps to display rate. does crossfire have support for this?

...FPS, I'm hoping you know, is Frames Per Second. This is effected by your computer itself. The older (or bogged down) the computer the worse off you are in the FPS. Only thing you can do is...
A) Clean up you computer. (Don't ask me how, Google it. Better help there anyway...)
Run a memory cleaner every so often. (Google [ur;=http://www.jfitz.com/RAMpage/]RamPage[/url] (2nd link). It's VERY useful...^~^)
C) Install more ram, if your computer allows it. If you can't, either your maxed because you have the maximum amount allowed by the motherboard, or you have an old arse computer that allows only 512Mb DIMM memory and you need to buy a new motherboard + CPU +RAM + HDDs + Ect...
So, FRAPS is NOT going to help you...PERIOD. It used CPU like nobodies fricking business unless you have a brand newish computer or something close. Not only that, but there is no such thing as forcing a program to run at a certain FPS...that would cause problems with your whole computer and conflict with other programs running in the background.
[EDIT] Are you using a Quad core computer or something? I remember one time I was playing a Lan game in halo against someone who had a quad core and it was making the game go stupid stupid STUPID fast... -

fraps works (thats what I use to cap my ping).
Sometimes the fps goes lower than what you capped it at, which is bad. -

I dunno Doops. I don't think CF has anything like that.pimpdemnikes wrote: »fraps works (thats what I use to cap my ping).

I had no idea fraps had anything to do with ping... but anyway, you COULD try using Fraps to limit the FPS, but you would have to pay $40 or only get to do that for 30 sec at a time o.o -
I don't think you all understand his problem.
For that matter, I don't think HE understands his problem.
To say that you have too many FPS makes no sense to me. The idea of having 800 FPS would require up-to-date alienware, 100% dedicated connection/processor and a 1v1 or 2v2 game.
I think something has been greatly mistaken on someone's end. -

i only play 5v5 snd.
If you would of read my post you would understand. I am a competitive player. I want my sensitivity to be constant. The speed of your sensitivity is dependent on FPS. If your fps is low you will have a lower sensitivity than if your fps is high.
My fps going from around 120-500+ (depending where i am at on the map) causes a very big jump in the speed of my cursor. I try to get it so a full swipe of my mouse pad is ~360 degrees FOV ingame. When my fps is up around and above 500 a full swipe of my mouse pad does ~720 degrees of FOV ingame. This is twice as fast as normal leading to me missing shots.
As for computer. I have one of the better computers you can get before you go to a core i7/i9. 4.2 Ghz wolfdale is plenty fast for cf. Considering I have my fps capped at 333 in CS:S should tell you something.
It is not my fault people in this community 1) don't understand competitive play 2) keep telling me to go download game booster -
No, I get what you're saying.. but you claimed over 800 and that didn't seem likely.
If you're using NVidia (like any good gamer should) for your graphics card, there should be an option around V-sync to lock in a more consistent frame rate, somewhere in the 3-D settings manager. I'm not sure about the very latest as I'm still using a 9600GT. -

i hope my l fixed it ._. -
Mmm...so you want to limit your FPS to 100? I was asking the same question but wanted it capped at ~45. I did a bit of google searching and found this:
http://au.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26943828
FPS Limiter.
Has worked for me all this time (try limiting CF to 5 FPS...:P It is HELL) Just follow the instructions and it'll work.
As far as I have tested it, it has worked for every DX8/9, OpenGL program I have, despite not being listed in the supported list. Plus, I reckon CF is more CPU-bound than graphics-bound so having a modern processor at a moderate overclock running CF which has graphics a little more better than CS 1.6...
And you said you wanted to CAP your FPS. Why would people recommend you download GameBooster? That may INCREASE your FPS, not CAP it... -

thank you
i will be trying it out tonight
do you have xfire incase i have any questions? -
Well, CF doesn't have a 'console' like CS does, but it does work 100% for me. I don't see any side effects of 'hooking' the game engine. Care to explain, though? Plus I also planned to use vsync but the CCC had no option for it and my monitor was limited to just 60Hz and 70Hz; :P spent ages on google trying to find something to limit fps on 3D apps.

I can get 350FPS and i don't feel any diff beetwin 350 and 100 FPS on my gameplay. I just feel the diff when they drop above 60FPS. Are you sure that your problem is about FPS?
And you can cap your FPS (at 100) with fraps or you can try with v-sync.
And is strange that a computer fast and good as your depresses the FPS that much 100-800. -
Your best bet without a 3rd party solution is a v-sync lock with either nvidia's or ati's control center. You'll be stuck at your monitor refresh rate, but if your adverse to downloading and running something, thats your best option.
I think you have enough noggin to google it and it look up. -

i tried a vsync lock at 120hz hopeing to get 120 fps, but i didn't it still went up and down
not sure if vsync works with crossfire
the fps limiter thing works, but it hooks the game engine and i would prefer to not get banned -
Can you tell us your PC configuration?
(a CPU of 3.0Ghz can be faster than a CPU of 4.0Ghz. Frequency is not the same as speed.)
4 x 1 GB Geil Black dragon DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15
Intel Wolfdale e8500 @ 4.2 Ghz
ATI HD 4850 (overclocked)
XFi Fatality (PCI)
Windows is tweaked alot
My computer is one of the fastest dual core's available. I also got a fast harddrive with plenty of cache (where all my programs are stored)
my media is stored on a seperate harddrive -

Aswesome L2 cache "6MB".
My CPU have more FSB than yours i have 1620MHZ of FSB and with 3.0Ghz of frequency. Your have E8500 L26MB 3,16GHz FSB-1333 MHz
with your OC to 4.2Ghz you probably have 1500FSB.
"My computer is one of the fastest dual core's available." +- depends what do you understand of faster, and how to see if an CPU is faster than the other one.
I have the same computer specs as you, mem 4-4-4-10 and my graphic card is ATI XFX HD4890 1GB DDR5 "Overclocked too". I don't have those FPS like 800. lol
And believe the best thing that you have is the L2cache.
You can use fraps to loc your FPS. Did you try that?
