This question has most likely been asked a bunch...

Apologies in advance if there's info somewhere else in the forum about this but I figured I'd ask here anyway to get some sort of timely response.

Just came back to this game after a really long time of not playing anything on PC and this game seems dead as a stump.

Checked to see if anything was going on in the competitive world and it doesn't seem like there's anything really booming right now.

Logging on and seeing 2 to 2 1/2 full channels is kind of depressing. Is there another version of CF that people moved to or something? I remember playing on CF EU way back and my ping was actually pretty good somehow, but I don't think I'm able to make an account and play on that version anymore.

Just wondering if anyone would be able to fill me in on the recent activity of the game/community over the past while.

I've been here since 2009, started off as a casual/clan server player and then moved into competitive play around 2010-2014 (maybe 15?) and then kind of fell off. IGNs in the past were Mango, mangoloff, [AWP]MaNg0, east_MANGO and Joeseff, currently hungryf0x. Those were the ones I kept longer than others, so if anyone reads this from way back they may or may not remember.

Past teams included Prefire, Obv... , Jeden, Ehh, and made PlayerSlayer.

Just a little background but the question still stands if anyone can fill me in on whats up or how dead/not dead the game/community is.

  • Hmm... I myself came back in 2016, so I really couldn't tell you what happened myself. I'll leave that for another more knowledgeable player to answer. However, I can tell you despite the low channel activity count you should still be able to find plenty of rooms to enjoy a game (apparently unless it's HMX, a mode I personally do not play). Yes, there's still hackers (seems like hackers exists as oxygen exists >.<), but rest assured there's been some great measures taken to reduce hackers.

As for the competitive scene, you just missed the CFS NA National Finals back in October. SetToDestroyX will be representing us in CFS Grand Finals in China in December. We also had March of the Ghost 2017 so if you're into competitive Ghost Mode, that was available.

We have also had CFCL Elite (CF Competitive League Elite) every Saturday every month since August, so I would hardly say the competitive scene is dead. After CFCL Elite, hopefully CFCL Open will start soon. CFCL Elite is invitations only whereas Open is open to anyone who submits the applications. You can learn more here: http://na.esports.z8games.com/index.html. The Saturday matches are streamed on Twitch with [Mod]zzqx casting.

Anyway, if you're coming back, just want to drop a quick welcome back! I'm sure a lot of the other players will fill in the knowledge gaps where I couldn't :o
  • UK servers are pretty active still, but NA seems to be losing lots of players. You see mostly low-rank newbies. Veterans will pop on for a few games. There has been a pretty bad infestation of cheaters over the last few months, so I imagine lots of people will just go find something more fun to do/play than getting hacked on.
  • Thanks for the reply, I'll have to follow the comp scene a little closer to see whats up. Thanks for the link.
