Error after new patch with rez\RB001.REZ

Hello there,

So as usual for me and some others players , a new patch comes with a new error making access to the game impossible...

the error from last patch with the "LatestVersion" value in version.ini file came back, after i fixed it i got this new one :

https://s1.postimg.org/8r97hn61lb/fileischanged.png

i tried to completely delete/ re-install the game, multiple times, with antivirus disabled(about 8 now i think...),not working

i tried getting that RB001.REZ in read-only as soon as the installation and before to make any attempt
to start the game, but doing so seems to be useless since when i launch cf_G4box the patching process or whatever brings a new RB001 file... and i suppose it just ignores the original file put in read only., and i end up with the exact same error.

i tried to change my "OwnVersion" value from 13 to 14 in Version.ini like suggested in a thread from today but it 's not working either..

if anyone has any solutions to suggest : i listen

thanks

  • what is the antivirus name ? if you are using avira free edition, forget about that and go uninstall-it, is a lame antivirus, restart pc and try again to run game.

    other tips :

    1. when install game, run the installer as administrator.
    2. install game to a different partition ( don't use default locatin on C:\, go for D:\ or E:\ instead)
    3. add game location to antivirus exception list, or white list, (some antiviruses requiere to add each .exe files)
    4. run game as administrator and compatibility mode windows 7.

P.S. As antivirus i use bitdefender 2017, cf game is installed on D:\ and added to bitdefender exceptions list = never have update issues

i use mbam , when i put a folder in exception list it says it implies all sub-folders and files being on the exception list so i think there's no problem on this side.
I'll try to re install the game on my D: and do like you said, hope this will work.

thanks a lot for your help
  • mbam free is just clean already infecetd files, but no protection against possible infection, you need premium version, anyway this is a antimalware program but not antivitus and firewall

therefore i presume windows defender is running also (default windows basic protection) so you have to add your game to windows defender exceptions also ( is a little harder but you will find video and tutorials on internet).

i already use the premium version of mbam and i disable all of the protection layers when i install the game.

I just tried to re install the game on D: drive by running the installer as admin, running the game in compatibility mode for windows 7 but i still got this error.

I(m using windows 8 and i think most people are on windows 7 or 10, maybe it has something to do with it
  • We've had nobody else report this as of yet, so I'm not sure its a Windows 8 thing. What other programs are you running in the background? Its possible something is affecting it somewhere along the line.

There is at least this guy with the exact same error message: http://forum.z8games.com/showthread.php?330815-another-patch-another-new-error

And that's only the first day, not everyone patched their game yet, and obviously not all players facing this issue will talk about it, some just move to another game...but i'm decided to make crossfire work again

I understand that it's legit for you guys to assume that the problem "come from me" , as an early player from 2009 i know this game gone through a lot of technical issues and things have been significantly improved on this side (i'm glad i'm not ejected from the game for jumping on a box anymore :D).

But, what i see is that since 3 months i came back on the game every new update put me in front of a broken access to the game..and that just doesn't happen in any other situation.
previously i've been able to fix it by re installing the game or following instructions on the forum but not this time..

Yesterday night before the patch the game was perfectly working, and between this moment and the moment i patched my game i just used firefox, i do not downloaded or installed anything.

since i have no idea of what is going wrong i can't tell that it doesn't "come from me" maybe it does, but what am i doing wrong? and how i figure this out? i guess that some recurrent problems that are fixed now could have been considered as "coming from the user" in the past?

The only processes running behind when i tried to re install and start the game are common windows stuff or asus (smartgesture, instant on,..) but those things are always running, nothing new.

i 've send a ticket to the support, wait & see
  • Bro
Forget what they tell you here I had the same problem a whole month since the last "update" and just fixed it today
Tell me where are you from (to know with time zone u are)
And give me a teamspeak address and I will tell you what to do
Btw it's not the fault of any antivirus programm or anything that block you
    They patched it wrong...

I would be careful, the way he's wording it makes it sound super shady...
@alan5593 what is it you're suggesting? It might help other people.

Thats was no bull at all, this guy helped me and lead me to fix the error, it was an error of the same kind than the previous one: the LatestVersion value was not incremented automatically like it should do, but this time it was not +1 it was +2 apparently

a BIG thanks to Alan5593 who gave of his time to help me.

Staff should take a serious look at this

Like said in a previous thread http://forum.z8games.com/showthread.php?330023-I-Fixed-The-Crossfire-exe-error-with-HGWC&highlight=fixed+hgwc

Everything says this problem is not coming from the users , there must be a recurrent problem in the patching process with some range of ip addresses as this guy says

I mean, he's telling OP to contact him outside the forums on teamspeak and not revealing any other information, that just seems really shady to me.
In my eyes it's like saying "I have what you want... Talk to me here where no one else can see/hear"

But fair enough if he's fixed it, that's good.

Edit: I read the thread OP posted and it says to uncheck the read-only box... Mine isn't checked as read-only, maybe that's what causes the error?
It can't change the version in that file because it has been set as read-only. I know there was an issue a while back where you HAD to change it to read-only to get it to work, which is probably why.

that was not the problem because when i had completely deleted / re installed and try to start the game without touching anything the" LatestVersion " value in the Version.ini file( which is created the first time you try to run the game), was not updating correctly while it was not read-only.
it's stuck to the value it had BEFORE the update that came before the halloween one.
Since the update before the halloween one , any attempt at starting the game for me with version.ini not in read-only changes the LatestVersion value to this one which is obsolete and obviously it can't work so you have to change it manually.
