You will have to keep it in the items tab forever since you cant dismantle perm crate guns.
So to answer your question, yeah it does save.

I'm fine with that. I just hate having duplicate guns in my storage. Hopefully GMs do an event like someone suggested to "sell" their duplicates in return for some crate tickets.

The thing is... there will be a time where you mistakenly save it to storage lol.
