This FPS Drop tho...

You lot gotta fix this FPS Dropping issue like yeah there's ways to fix it abit but you still gonnna be dropping at random times during gameplay making this unplayable and unfun. And yes my computer can SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN CF thank you very much, if I can run it's unbiological big brother CSGO then I think CF should run pretty fine if you ask me.

  • Happens like once every 20 games or something xD at least for me
Wouldn't say it's unplayable tho :) still annoying

You don't understand how bad it is for me right now since I ain't played CF for like a few weeks ( usually if I play it alot more often it get's better and better ) the game stops moving like every 20 seconds and if anything happens it should stops... and goes like if i go into the scoreboard or pick up a weapon or see some kind of explosion/smoke... terrible.

I rank it as unplayable and no game should be acting like this if you got the right specs. I shouldn't have to think of upgrading my PC to play CF out of all games lol.
  • it is not as issue, the FPS depends mainly on the abilities of your computer, cf is a high graphic game so it "consumes" the PC . so the fps drops have no relation with Cf .
The most appropriate action to be done if you are facing it, just restart your PC , it should be fixed :)

Unfortunately it doesn't matter how good your PC is (Mine is pretty beastly), you still get FPS drops on occasion, like when changing bags or picking weapons up off the ground :(

I get 200 FPS solid on 99% of maps (ZM for some reason drops me down to like 140 during the light show thing on theatre) and still go down to 0 fps for a second or so after changing bags.

but restarting the PC fixes it , doesn't it?
  • but restarting the PC fixes it , doesn't it?

Nope, next game I play it still freezes when I pick up weapons.

The only way I've found to get round it is to swap through ALL my bags at the beginning of the match.
From then on I can change without and FPS drops.

    No, it doesn't.

This issue pertains to the time it takes for the game client to load a file from your hard drive. For example, if you pick up a weapon from the ground, the client has to load it's 3D texture and effects files from your hard drive to your RAM. The client freezes you until the files are loaded. I don't know how CF client accomplishes this, but since these files are compressed in .REZ files, it probably unpacks the rez files each time a new texture needs to be loaded. So it depends on if your HDD is dying or if you have less RAM, but it might also be because of unorganized stuff in rez files and CF's faulty engine.
  • i have this problem too when i drop my gun or when i pick up a gun my screen freezes , and when i see many smokes my fps drops[ not to 0]

this is weird o.o when I realize that the fps is dropping every 10 seconds , I just restart the PC idk how but yea it works! xD

It just means your PC is bad and needs to be upgraded.

SSD + 16GB RAM and it still happens, it's got to be CF.
  • I'd imagine CrossFire loads stuff in quite inefficiently.

I remember putting a 6 Minute Track by accident as my Menu Music back in the day, loading into a Section which had said Music playing would take AGES.

The same thing happens whenever you pick up a gun.
Instead of pre loading the 3D Model into memory when it is loaded in by someone bringing it into the Game, it instead loads it the moment you pick it up.
And with the weird way CrossFire seems to do it, it'll always stutter, some more than others, if the gun in question has an elaborate skin on it.
(Same with sounds, that Beep Sound? It stutters every time the first time it plays.)

New Character models being loaded in which weren't present when you loaded in makes it stutter quite often as well, the first time around.

So yeah, from my experience the Stutters in question only ever happen once after loading the game up. Everything is fine and dandy after that.

So it's more the Engine of CrossFire being rather.... modest, optimization wise rather than anyones PC, or so I'd like to think.
  • Go to storage, freeze. Go to item shop, freeze. Join a game, freeze. Change bags, freeze. Pick up weapon, freeze. Get near an enemy, freeze. About to jump, freeze. Look at the moon, freeze. Boneless pizza, freeze. CrossFreeze.

You can't do anything without having your FPS drop. Just deal with it on an outdated game.
  • Welp I don't get the massive FPS drops anymore outside of when changing to a different bag. My massive FPS drops before would happen every few minutes, whenever a grenade went off kinda close to me, and a few other instances. But all that went away upon Updating my Nvidia drivers (and keeping them up to date...) which always requires a restart as well.

But I do agree with what preset was saying in that CF as a whole is outdated and is probably the furthest thing from optimized as it can be. It'd be REAL nice if say one of our future patches was just the Devs going through the coding and optimizing and removing anything unnecessary. But that's a VERY tedious process and one that has to be done carefully cause it could cause some serious issues. They could have a handful of Devs focus on that while another group focuses on getting a decent anti-hack system for here too cause we certainly need that right now as well.
