VIP thompson everywhere?

Has anyone else noticed an unusually high number of players with thompson infernal dragon vip after the patch? A lot of them are relatively low rank too. Was there some sort of sale or something?

It's an event and all these VIPs are temporary (1 day).
Just like that 8th anniversary event ( I forgot what was it's name xD)

Just played FFA and ran into low ranks with vip tommy and ak cheating when m4 day hits looking forward to running into a cheater and his insane wallbangs...

It looks like it might only be the broken kukri that it changes... I saw a speed knifer change to kukri ult. gold and he either turned it off or it didn't work.
