Smoke Grenade Question

As it stands, smoke grenades are not particularly useful. You can simply scan your crosshair through smoke to see whether or not someone is there.

However, it is possible to make it so that names cannot be seen through smokes through an in-game feature.

Should this feature be toggled in competitive matches and scrims, to make smokes practical?

Just curious as to what your thoughts are

  • I could see it as viable if there was a way to implement the restriction, but it would be difficult to monitor to perfection in terms of a tournament environment.

It would be nice if there were lobby settings you could have set to make everyone automatically have certain settings enabled or disabled, such as this and things like 16 / 32 bit.

It's possible to 100% verify if any players did not have the setting enabled.

    Edit:

Not that I'm particularly for or against it. This will make us have an even harder time at internationals, as suddenly we'll have no practice shooting at names through smoke, or being able to be seen through smoke. However, it will make something that is mostly pointless have a lot more utility than it currently does, opening new avenues of strategy and gameplay.
  • It would be interesting since it would make the game harder (which is typically a good thing), but ultimately if it's exclusive to our region then it'd just be counterproductive
  • That ^ and what do you think about bloom speed? I think they should become full faster

I'm no coder, but wouldn't you think they could change the offset of a smoke grenade to read as though it were a wall? I mean you can't highlight people through walls obviously. In simple terms, when you throw a smoke grenade, have the game basically read it as if there was a temporary wall there, so that you can't see through the smoke whatsoever. No idea if that's possible, but hey.... for the sake of conversation.... lol

Yeah you could do this but I think it'd be hard to outline the smoke as it is a changing effect (ie walls don't move so its easy, but since smoke nades expand and contract you'd need to write the code in a way so this "dead space" is expanding and contracting in equal amounts). I think it would be easier to simply take the nametags out altogether for the enemy teams. This would give the same effect the only problem is that camping would suddenly become a lot more effect since you can't just scroll over boxes anymore, you'd have to physically check each spot.
