Ghostmode Tournaments
Hello.
I have some questions regarding the community and their interests/expectations when it comes to community held tournaments. The time to ask is perfect now considering how many community held tournaments we've had. From the UK hosted tournament, the 1vs1, and the 2vs2 in the past few months for example. There was also the recently concluded MoTG (though it was official and not community run) which was held in high regard thanks to it's commitment to finishing everything within 7 hours. All that being said, what have been your thoughts on the tournaments? Here are a few sample questions:
My curiosity is based on the fact that I will be running another tournament sometime in the summer. At the moment the month will most likely be June. Not much else is decided for the tournament but there is a chance that the prizes for this tournament will be drastically different. Probably actual physical prizes for the winning team, a headset/mouse/keyboard for example (if we decide to do 3vs3). There is a chance that Depado will be involved in this tournament. For this tournament what time works best for you during the month of June to participate?
There is also a new discord channel being developed to be used only for tournaments. A link will be provided in the tournament thread when it's made. The registration thread for this tournament won't be until May. Most likely until the rules/prizes and schedule has been decided.
Additional questions may be asked further in this thread.

For cheat prevention: how do you feel about MOSS compared to simply recording your gameplay? One or the other, both combined? Neither? (Do you have a better solution).
Recording worked well in motg.
Thank you, mate. -
Some problems I saw in the Ghost mode tournament was dqing teams, I dont think the whole team should suffer because of one player, you should give them time to find a different team, or change the team, or dq that one person who messed it up for the team from the tournament.
A good tournament for gm we should do next is a 3v3 since we havent had one of those. The maps since its a 3v3 should be: Haken, Lab, Metro. any map that isnt too big will be good for this
Cheat preventions, the beat anticheat is blackbox but since it is too complicated for some people MOSS is the best option. Recording gameplay shouldnt happen because a lot of people already have a hard time getting good fps so recording will probably just toast their pc
Weapon set Of course gm pug rules no armor, no girl char, no vip
Another problem is that the tournament always gets extended so we should be more strict now if a team doesnt show up give them a reasonable time period to show up like 20-30 minutes and if they still dont show up just dq because thats how tournaments turn into one week tournaments
Team Register: should be atleast 20 teams allowed to sign up
If UK is going to play the only thing i can say about that is either you put uk vs uk and na vs na or you do one game na and one game uk thats the only one i can see that being resolved. -
Hello, buddy
- Which format did you prefer most? Single elimination or double elimination?
Single - What is your perfect team size? 5vs5? 2vs2? Doesn't matter?
a 3v3 is a bad idea for many reasons, do not do that. 5v5 with only 1 sub is perfect - How motivated are you to join a tournament due only to the rewards/prizes?
very much; although, i dont think id win. - Do you actually care/cared for the streaming that was/is provided?
Yes. - Do you think tournaments and teams should be restricted to each region? i.e no UK versus NA matches
NO. UK can **** off - What do you believe are the best times of the year to host tournaments?
the following month or two after MoTG is when everybody is active again... - How do you feel about tournaments that expand multiple days due to their size?
it depends, if its because teams are delaying their matches then id be pised. - Do you think it's justified to disqualify teams that do not show up on time for their scheduled match?
yes, once all other games in the round has been played, no shows should be dq'd. also NO matches should be delayed. - Should players previous history prevent them from playing in future tournaments? I.e, cheated in the past, got disqualified for breaking rules, etc
Yes - What do you believe are the best weapon/utility rulesets for competitive ghostmode tournaments? i.e, PUG rules / MoTG Rules / Or new rules (provide examples)
MoTG rules plus fp m4a1 - If provided the option (and if able), would you donate to increase the prizepool for the tournaments?
Yes - For cheat prevention: how do you feel about MOSS compared to simply recording your gameplay? One or the other, both combined? Neither? (Do you have a better solution)
Have 2 options to prevent cheating, recording and MOSS.

What do you personally believe were the pros and cons of the way each tournament was organised/run?
Which format did you prefer most? Single elimination or double elimination?
Single makes the tourney faster but for the people who wait all the months for a tourney and then they play 2 matches and get knocked out
it would be cool to play the double elimination as well. Both is fine. Not even to give them a 2nd chance just to play some more matches.
What is your perfect team size? 5vs5? 2vs2? Doesn't matter?
5v5 is the optimal tourney team setting for ghostmode. 1v1 or 2v2 is more like when the community is dead and you dont have enough people for a good tourney.
How motivated are you to join a tournament due only to the rewards/prizes?
I dont care about prizes.
Do you actually care/cared for the streaming that was/is provided?
Oh yea, This is how to make a tourney enjoyable for everyone and even when its done you still have something from it. Awesome would be to have some commentators as well and the stream should be saved on twitch that people who actually play the matches can watch the stream after the tourney either. [November tourney already made an example how to do so.. just make sure you dont run in the same technical issue and test the stream some days before please..]
Do you think tournaments and teams should be restricted to each region? i.e no UK versus NA matches
UK vs NA matches should be hold as always 1 game both sides in NA and UK. Even tho the rivalry between both servers give the whole tourney some extra spice and makes it even more interesting.
What do you believe are the best times of the year to host tournaments? no idea.
How do you feel about tournaments that expand multiple days due to their size?
Due to the timezones its usually f**ed up for some guys. 2 Days would be cool so people dont need to stay up till 7 am just to play a match for the 3rd place for example. Also we shouldnt make that whole construct to strict, i would say both teams need to be available on both days and then if it gets to late we can just switch over a match to the next day. [Saturday and Sunday would be optimal]
Do you think it's justified to disqualify teams that do not show up on time for their scheduled match?
Yea since you cant hold back the whole tourney just because team 4 didnt show up in the first round f.e. so atleast here we should be strict. Just make sure everything is well described in a schedule [usually u did a good job in other tourneys before here so no doubts]
Should players previous history prevent them from playing in future tournaments? I.e, cheated in the past, got disqualified for breaking rules, etc
I think we should have beside the stream and the commentary also some overwatchers. Also people should safe their replays and take ss or use moss. But basically everyone should be allowed to play. Oh and 1 thing between the matches you should plan some time like 1 hour so if someone complains about another team you have actually time to check that either. Thats what went wrong in Motg for example.
What do you believe are the best weapon/utility rulesets for competitive ghostmode tournaments? i.e, PUG rules / MoTG Rules / Or new rules (provide examples)
M4A1-silver and everything comparable, Desert Eagle, Smoke Grenade, Breath down, male chars, no vips, axe, knife also some accessoires without effects like hats to make your tome some more unique. Everything else should be forbidden.
If provided the option (and if able), would you donate to increase the prizepool for the tournaments?
Yes, but then i would like to have a stream atleast.
For cheat prevention: how do you feel about MOSS compared to simply recording your gameplay? One or the other, both combined? Neither? (Do you have a better solution)
Yes, moss is fine since people have problems with recording this seems like the best option. -
What do you personally believe were the pros and cons of the way each tournament was organised/run?
All the player hosted tournaments last longer than advertised and the GM hosted ones never have sufficient information posted ahead of time.
What was the best outcome from the tournaments?
What was the worst.
Which format did you prefer most? Single elimination or double elimination?
Single otherwise the tournament takes ages to finish.
What is your perfect team size? 5vs5? 2vs2? Doesn't matter?
Personally I like 5v5s but they're all fun.
How motivated are you to join a tournament due only to the rewards/prizes
Prizes help, but i'd probably sign up anyways if I wanted to play.
Do you actually care/cared for the streaming that was/is provided?
Don't care.
Do you think tournaments and teams should be restricted to each region? i.e no UK versus NA matches
What do you believe are the best times of the year to host tournaments?
I think the best time to host a tournament is during the summer and if its UK vs NA I feel like each region should be put on opposite sides of the bracket for as long as possible because its unfair not to play on each teams respective server, but its a real pain to have to play twice as long.
How do you feel about tournaments that expand multiple days due to their size?
If enough prior notice is given then I feel this is fine.
Do you think it's justified to disqualify teams that do not show up on time for their scheduled match?
Definitely justified. If you can't log on to play when you're supposed to then why should the other team have to wait? DQ after 15min.
Should players previous history prevent them from playing in future tournaments? I.e, cheated in the past, got disqualified for breaking rules, etc.
Yeah if you cheat/have cheated in the past then you don't deserve the right to compete. I'd even as far as to say those people can't even play on alts.
What do you believe are the best weapon/utility rulesets for competitive ghostmode tournaments? i.e, PUG rules / MoTG Rules / Or new rules (provide examples)
PUG rules. No VIPs, Armor, Girl characters, Machine guns, etc.
If provided the option (and if able), would you donate to increase the prizepool for the tournaments?
If I thought the tournament looked well run and donating was easy then sure. I probably wouldn't play if I donated though.
For cheat prevention: how do you feel about MOSS compared to simply recording your gameplay? One or the other, both combined? Neither? (Do you have a better solution)
I think an Anti-cheat is a must for competitive and MOSS really can't cut it. It's really unfortunate because so many people get huge drops in FPS when recording. I think if you have GM players as over-watchers then MOSS can be viable, but other than that recording 10/10.
-
What do you personally believe were the pros and cons of the way each tournament was organised/run?
-MOTG: lack of information & preparation time. Harder to negotiate (both pros and cons, since dq more savage but the tourney always finish in time)
-Commun: more lenient, the format can be changed according to community's desire. Too easy to negotiate (the tourneu could drag for a month due to time conflict etc)
What was the best outcome from the tournaments?
Idk
What was the worst.
Idk
Which format did you prefer most? Single elimination or double elimination?
Single
What is your perfect team size? 5vs5? 2vs2? Doesn't matter?
5v5
How motivated are you to join a tournament due only to the rewards/prizes?
Well I never care about the prizes or $$, but it good if I got them.
Do you actually care/cared for the streaming that was/is provided?
So-so
Do you think tournaments and teams should be restricted to each region? i.e no UK versus NA matches
Can be UK vs UK, NA vs NA then best NA vs best UK.
What do you believe are the best times of the year to host tournaments?
Same with Pizza's.
How do you feel about tournaments that expand multiple days due to their size?
Idc
Do you think it's justified to disqualify teams that do not show up on time for their scheduled match?
Yes, no one have the right to postpone a match unless the other team (all members) agree to
Should players previous history prevent them from playing in future tournaments? I.e, cheated in the past, got disqualified for breaking rules, etc
Depends on what their "history" was about. If they are so infamous that can make bad example for other players, then no.
What do you believe are the best weapon/utility rulesets for competitive ghostmode tournaments? i.e, PUG rules / MoTG Rules / Or new rules (provide examples)
Pug is fine, although I know many want to include DE Camo
If provided the option (and if able), would you donate to increase the prizepool for the tournaments?
Im broke
For cheat prevention: how do you feel about MOSS compared to simply recording your gameplay? One or the other, both combined? Neither? (Do you have a better solution)
Maybe both? I dont really know how moss works. We should find a solid way to prevent macro too. -
Good thread. I see some toxic answers incoming but I guess I could be toxic too so what can ya do.
In regards to your sample questions:
What do you personally believe were the pros and cons of the way each tournament was organised/run?
- Honestly with the exception of MoTG, none of the tournaments were run well imo. They either ran on too long or gave to much room for people to complain about stuff that negatively affected them. Organizers were not strict enough with their schedules and gave too much leeway. I do realize that the UK players are existent too but if they wanna play that badly they should be able to adhere to scheduling. Or if attendance is a problem, hold a vote. If people can't show it should be a dq, simple as that. I can respect a tournament running more than 1 day, but it should not run on for over a week waiting for 1 game to finish.
What was the best outcome from the tournaments?
- For the community hosted tournaments, probably the UK held tournament. The least complaining happened and at least they did a reasonable job holding to their schedule.
What was the worst.
- The 2v2 tournament, a lot of smurfing happened and the organizers were way too forgiving, letting the tourny run forever
Which format did you prefer most? Single elimination or double elimination?
- I was a fan of double elimination but now after MoTG I think single elimination is better. It allows the tournament to run more smoothly and forces teams to play their best every single game
What is your perfect team size? 5vs5? 2vs2? Doesn't matter?
- 5vs5 is ideal to be completely honest. The way that competitive ghost mode should always be played. There are enough people to play elaborate setups and strats and on top of that you have to find a team that all works well together. A single player will not be carrying this format, his team needs to be of assistance.
How motivated are you to join a tournament due only to the rewards/prizes?
- Rewards and prizes definitely help the motivation factor, but personally I play just for the sake of playing competitively. I like when games are more intense and I actually have to try to win. Being able to say you are better than everyone else is my primary motivation (ego).
Do you actually care/cared for the streaming that was/is provided?
- Yeah for sure as long as it doesn't hinder the tournament running well
Do you think tournaments and teams should be restricted to each region? i.e no UK versus NA matches
- A debatable question, honestly I love playing UK players as long as they are cooperative and respectful. So personally no if they being nice
What do you believe are the best times of the year to host tournaments?
- Summers and Winter breaks, everybody is less busy then
How do you feel about tournaments that expand multiple days due to their size?
- Hate it, want them to run quick and that's it
Do you think it's justified to disqualify teams that do not show up on time for their scheduled match?
- Yeah for sure, they have an obligation to show on time, and they aren't losing anything. Of course having tournament organizers set up schedules well in advance is important, but once they are released, they should be final. I'm sick and tired of community hosted tourny's not running properly due to the incompetence of some of the teams. If the tourny mattered that much to you, you would show up on time... simple as that.
Should players previous history prevent them from playing in future tournaments? I.e, cheated in the past, got disqualified for breaking rules, etc.
- I think if a player has had a history of cheating, they should not be allowed to play. Although if it was over a certain period of time ago (2 years for example) they could be given benefit of the doubt. But tournaments should have no place for cheaters, if you need to reduce the size of it to have it run, so be it.
What do you believe are the best weapon/utility rulesets for competitive ghostmode tournaments? i.e, PUG rules / MoTG Rules / Or new rules (provide examples)
- Virtually every single tournament that NA has hosted in the last 5 years has been some variation of our PUG rules, and don't get me wrong, it works as a usable ruleset but it kinda is stale for me. On top of that having the BD + Silenced weapons kinda reduces the skill cap for the mode because you have the hold left click with no consequence meta *cough* Yash, Scout, Sivo *cough* vs the easy approach from BL. I'd love to see standard GP weps vs Axes with no BD. It would make for faster paced games and have the mode overall to be much more skill reliant. Because lets be honest, I've seen players get "good" just by learning how to spray in the right direction.
If provided the option (and if able), would you donate to increase the prizepool for the tournaments?
- Considering I was thinking about running a tournament with real cash payouts, I would say I am more than willing to donate if that's what players need. Because nobody can play this mode for the sake of playing this mode anymore, just to play to say you are the best... period (that's what pubs are for now). But yeah, if more people show up because bigger prize pools, I can pitch in some goods.
For cheat prevention: how do you feel about MOSS compared to simply recording your gameplay? One or the other, both combined? Neither? (Do you have a better solution)
- MOSS is trash, it does nothing, sorry. But you can easily forge the PC information on the MOSS files (players did that in the 2v2 tourny) and the random screenshots can be tampered with, albeit difficult at times. I've also heard that there are cheats that can bypass MOSS so honestly it's a waste of space. If you are going to use an anti-cheat have players record, there are programs that can record on low settings without touching your fps that much. If that's a problem, don't play. I'd also recommend blackbox, but I know nothing about it. -
Hello.
<insert super long questions here>
Additional questions may be asked further in this thread.
Hey. Actually useful thread so ill make a serious reply.- What do you personally believe were the pros and cons of the way each tournament was organised/run?
Honestly i'd like them to run more games over a 1 day period with more overviews so that the tournament is run quicker. - What was the best outcome from the tournaments?
Brings ghostmode players together - What was the worst.
Gets people really salty over DQs and stuff, builds hate towards specific teams over past feuds etc. - Which format did you prefer most? Single elimination or double elimination?
I like double elimination. Most tournaments are run this way, only negative is the tournament becomes longer. - What is your perfect team size? 5vs5? 2vs2? Doesn't matter?
5v5 - How motivated are you to join a tournament due only to the rewards/prizes?
A solid prize is always good incentive. - Do you actually care/cared for the streaming that was/is provided?
Yes, watching the stream / playback is really nice Speaking of which I am totally willing to help when needed, should be done my PC build in the coming months, so I'll be able to stream in really high quality with no problems. Also totally willing to help oversee it - Do you think tournaments and teams should be restricted to each region? i.e no UK versus NA matches
Always a topic of debate, I think the way we get around it by playing both in the NA and UK solves it. Restricting it to region only might bring the tournament size down alot. Personally, i'd keep it. - What do you believe are the best times of the year to host tournaments?
Any time most people have holidays + summer time weekends - How do you feel about tournaments that expand multiple days due to their size?
Please no. Its tough enough to get people to show up on one day. Also most people I know could make saturday, but not sunday for a weekend tournament, having it done friday night / finish saturday is the best route. No more than 2 days. - Do you think it's justified to disqualify teams that do not show up on time for their scheduled match?
Absolutely. Rules are there for a reason too, people who forget to turn of special chars and stuff also deserve to get the allotted punishment. - Should players previous history prevent them from playing in future tournaments? I.e, cheated in the past, got disqualified for breaking rules, etc
The way its done now (no cheating ban in the past 2 years) is fine. Everyone deserves a second chance - What do you believe are the best weapon/utility rulesets for competitive ghostmode tournaments? i.e, PUG rules / MoTG Rules / Or new rules (provide examples)
I'd love to see a gp only tournament but that's pretty tough for people, I dont mind PUG rules. - If provided the option (and if able), would you donate to increase the prizepool for the tournaments?
z8games should be providing prizes. Its their game, how difficult is it to say, here's 6 codes for <insert weapon of choice>. All it takes is a few lines of code for them and they're done. - For cheat prevention: how do you feel about MOSS compared to simply recording your gameplay? One or the other, both combined? Neither? (Do you have a better solution)
I dont mind MOSS, but I get the difficulty of having everyone use it. Everyone recording their gameplay is enough I think. Iv'e done it on a terrible computer using OBS and it didn't lower my FPS at all, it can be done. As for people complaining about not having enough bandwidth to upload within 24 hours, please, its 2017. Go to your nearest mcdonalds and upload it from there.
