Smilegate acquire rights to the World Cyber Games!

South Korean developer and publisher Smilegate has acquired the trademark rights to the World Cyber Games (WCG) brand, previously owned by Samsung.

The announcement arrives a bit late, with the official contract and related legal paperwork signed earlier in January to give Smilegate the reins to what was once termed as the Olympics of esports. Neither party has yet revealed how much the deal was worth.

Kinda explains the CFCL delay? Maybe it's being incorporated? This is why it's "worth the wait?" Interested in seeign how it effects NA, being that we get left out of everything lol

I dont think this has anything to do with CFCL, but its nice to see them reignite WCG.

Also NA doesn't get left out of everything. We have been given at least 1 invite (2 in some cases) to every single WCA, WCG, CFS involving CF
The only international event we aren't a part of is Elite League (Since its locked to VN CN BR PH) and Region specific events.

LOOL left out of everything? The uk was always left out of everything, yet we still played these ass tournaments. Stop being so stubborn.

Most likely mean more international live events rather than CFS. So yes, in a way it means more SnD Tournaments.

I am just curious, are the tournaments they organize only international ones or are there onlne-based ones.

The qualifiers were online-based but the main event was international, based in China usually. It was based on countries, not regions. In NA, the US and Canada had separate qualifiers, and in Europe only Germany had a qualifier.
