A Guide On How To Improve Your FPS


Well, I have an extremely crappy computer, and my FPS usually hits in the low 30's. After tweaking and prodding (Literally) my computer, I've figured out some of the things that can cause you FPS to go down, and ways to fix them:

1) The Registry

The registry is basically a database on your computer that stores information about your computer, settings, ect.

When you uninstall\change programs, some of the files in your registry become useless. They take up space, and affect the stability of your system. Cleaning out your registry regularly will increase you FPS by quite a lot

I suggest using CCleaner:

It cleans your registry, its fast and easy, and I find it pretty useful

2) Background Programs

When your running a game, background programs on your computer will slow it down. They take up RAM, and are sometimes really annoying -_-

A simple and easy way to solve this is to install game booster (http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=5952&file=15&evp=dc8312b3c3f52e18c69b7584026d7aec), It temporary stops background programs while you are playing games, then enables them after your done.

Now your probably asking: I can close programs myself, why would I need to use this?

Well, not only does it close unneeded background programs, It has a pretty cool Game Defrag option, which organizes the files of your game in a way that makes them start up faster, and run smoother. Also, not only does it stop unneeded background programs, It also stops the things you would have a hard time stopping, like Automatic updates and all that crap :p

3) System maintenance

Even though CCleaner takes care of the registry, there are way more things it doesn't cover. For this, I would recommend Tune Up Utilities 2010 (Its a trail). It improves overall system performance, and comes with a neat feature called "Turbo Mode", where like game booster, It closes unneeded background programs and services. Tip: Scan For Viruses, they slow down your computer, and they aren't good (Duh) :p

If you are a really desperate player, who wants to play the game, but your computer sucks, and has really low FPS, you could try some of these programs that improve your performance even MORE, but aren't really needed.
