Bad isp

I have connection problems for around 2 years, after we got a "better" connection package problems started. I'm stuck with them because my family runs a business that requires a connection and if we break the contract it would take atleast a month for another isp to set up everything. Dc's, lag spikes, constant high latency. I'm sure we called them over 100 times in these 2 years but they have incompetent staff that always says different things. Like bad cables in the street, you have a virus etc.
It takes them a full month to fix a problem. Few days ago my ping was over 150 all the time instead of 30-ish. And now I have no clue what to do because I'm tired of making useless calls.
I even got 1 hour ban few months ago because of massive spikes.
My neighbours who use the same isp don't have any problems.

  • The fact that your neighbors have the same ISP and aren't having these problems tells me it's probably not the ISP service itself. Did they provide the modem and router? And if so have you guys had them replace those items? Time Warner Cable is big in my area as it's like the only Cable company (cause yay for non-competing agreements between cable company thus creating small area monopolies!...not really) and thus the only 'reliable' high speed internet and I've known people who when TWC set up their internet modem that they provided a faulty one and so there were issues with their internet connections. If your ISP didn't provide the modem & router and your family had purchased one to use it may not meet the requirements of the ISP to function fully at the internet speeds being provided as well and thus causing issues.

Also that being said...if your family is running a business could I assume you guys are running a personal server for said business on this connection? If so, could varying traffic on the business' server be causing issue with your own personal connection?

Though I'm sure you've probably been through all of this while talking with your ISP before...but meh. Hopefully a fix is found for you eventually....

    I suppose....Only Time Will Tell...
  • Ay boss, which ISP is providing you your internet services?

I'm paying for 30 Mbps and when I first switched to this new "package" the speed was about 20ish Mbps. I gave them a call and asked "y u do this to me? i pay for 30, don't give me 20 plz". Now, after I came back home from a 2 months break, I get 50 Mbps instead of promised 30. I can't really complain xD

    EDIT: T-Com all the way
  • Changed everything.
When my ping was spiking up to 5k they sent someone to check whats up and he changed the cables, worked properly for 1 week then the same story again.
    Optima kod mene

    Yes router also
    Abgdo nice post
  • Well, I know a couple cf players who used Optima and had those silly issues.
It can take a lot of time to switch to another ISP, but I think it's worth it if your current ISP causes you these problems.

Legally they're not allowed to hang up on you, yeah they'll give you a lot of crap if you're not aggressive with them. You just have to keep pressing for a permanent fix, if not they won't do anything. Do you live in a fiber optic area? Also why can't you just get the new internet then break the contract with the old ISP afterwards?

This sounds so familiar. Is your isp Virgin Media? Did you upgrade to Vivid package with up to 200MB download speed? Do you live in UK? Are you playing wireless? The signal from that Vivid modem is not that great, the old one was better. Also its amazing how many times Virgin staff tell you they are working on a problem in the area. Report it then it gets fixed for a week then back to the same old bad service again. Also you will need to go into your pc for it to accept the new speed. There is a 2G and a 5G connection ( took me ages to figure that one out ) But yea good luck.
