10 Questions about Ghost Mode

I remember seeing a slightly similar thread a couple of years but can't find it. Since there are a lot of people playing GM again I thought I might ask a few questions since I'm bored. You don't necessarily have to answer all of them, also feel free to expand on any of the questions.

1. When and why did you start playing Ghost Mode?

2. Has the Ghost Mode scene changed since then? If yes, how so?

3. What was your favourite clan that you were part of?

4. Who were some players you looked up to when you started playing? Do you still play with them?

5. Who is the best player you've played with, and played against?

6. Who is your favourite player? (Could be same as #4 and #5)

7. What was your favourite memory of this mode?

8. What was your highest BL and GR score in a pub?

9. What were your most impressive BL and GR scores in a clan war(not necessarily highest)? Who was it against?

10. What would be the ideal Ghost Mode community in your opinion?

Here are my answers:
1. When and why did you start playing Ghost Mode?

Started playing Crossfire in 2009 because I went to school with kingrazza and leftsyndrome, they talked a lot about Ghost Mode and tried to get me into it. I only started actively playing it in 2011 though. It became quite addicting and I spent on average 10 hours a day playing the game without a break over the summer of 2011... RIP

2. Has the Ghost Mode community changed since then? If yes, how so?

I wasn't part of the competitive community back then so I cannot comment on that, but as for pubs, the weapons were always either Knives Axes and Shovels on BL vs. Scar Light, M12s, or M4A1 Custom on GR. Back then, our biggest worries were vsing someone who mained an M12 because that thing was considered super OP. Comparing that to an M4 VIP now is a joke.

Also, Breath down was very rarely used and considered "nooby" by most of the people I played with in pubs.

3. What was your favourite clan that you were part of?

I've had a lot of fun clans, but obviously, I gotta pick Aversion when it first made and we were pretty much a merge of Evil Glory and Inflicted. Been in it for almost 3 years now, clan warred a bunch and had tons of fun.

4. Who were some players you looked up to when you started playing? Do you still play with them?

For BL, I always looked up to Ozman because his bhops were really "pretty" I guess. He was never much of a fragger, he just hopped around the map with ease and being the newbie I was, I'd just be mesmerized.
For GR, I thought Gonasnipeu? was a GR beast until I found out he hacked pretty much the whole time. Gringobird was a close 2nd for me even though he's mostly known for his BL.

5. Who are the best players on GR and BL you've played with, and played against?

With:
GR: Banned. A couple of years ago, pretty much every 3v3 clan war, even if you and your other clannie die at the start of the round, you never really think the round's lost because the last guy is Brad and he was mr.sure clutch. He's ass now though.
BL: Tu, same as Brad, clutches with ease, also somehow never rusty.

Against:
BL: Blackninja, he's arguably the best NA BL player I've seen in years. Probably would be Judge if he learned to use an Axe lol
GR: LeftSyndrome, always cw'd vs. him around 2013. Beast.

6. Who is your favourite player? (Could be same as #3 and #4)
JudgeSim, because I'm a fan of anyone who can rock a knife as well as this guy.

7. What was your favourite memory of this mode?
Slowly moving into the competitive side of things right when OCG came around. Started scrimming with and against people I haven't seen or heard of in 2 years.

8. What was your highest BL and GR score in a pub?
I hardly ever stay for a whole pub but..
BL: 62-7
GR: 65-11

9. What were your most impressive BL and GR scores in a clan war(not necessarily highest)? Who was it against?
GR: 21-0 vs. some egy clan but the most impressive would be this clan war against Monastery back in 2013 where I got around 15 kills and 1v2'd a bunch of rounds just to tie it.
BL: 17-1 vs. Exertus just cause my clannies said they're gonna sit back and let me get all the kills cause I was on fire.

10. What would be the ideal Ghost Mode community in your opinion?
An active community with at least 10-15 competitive Ghost Mode clans that don't use OP weapons.
I don't want the community to be too nice to each other, I'd like to see a lot of trash talk during games but once the games are done, everyone goes back to being friends lol.
Also, clans that are actually interested in clan warring, scrimming, pugging etc and don't just lock themselves in a room all day *coughcough*

Comments

  • Uhmmm.... sir, can a noob like me say something?
  • 3. What was your favourite clan that you were part of? NunsWithGuns because they liked to play artful too. but they also gave me the most headaches.

    5. [rephrased cuz answered in other thread] Who are the hardest players you find to kill?: whoisami. also snowflake, melanie, bella. there's something about female movements + star + mp5 adv/deagle camo + hats that just completely messes with me. i always struggled trying to kill them lol. they aren't the goat, they just seem to match well against me.

    6. Who is your favourite player? (Could be same as #4 and #5) frozenpizza, banned, dagnasty (was) they are/were funny to read on forums.

    7. What was your favourite memory of this mode? the only real 1v1 i ever had. vs [Last]Angel4. Dagnasty (leader of judgement) summoned me to battle him/her. If i won, he would join the clan. so the stakes were high because [Last]angel4 was a top notch GR player at the time. we only played 1 half first to 5 rounds but it was awesome. i was knifing + BD vs his m4 custom, spop, armour on lab. there was a bunch of people watching and he got a 4-2 lead on me. clannies told me to switch to axe but i was too stubborn. i came back and won 5-4 and it felt soo satisfying. he didn't join the clan though lmao. that's ok. still worth.

1v5 clutching CFBR's top gm team to win the half in a huge tourney with 1,000+ people watching on twitch was pretty sweet too.

    10. What would be the ideal Ghost Mode community in your opinion?

multiply the size by x15 would be a good start. removing vips, ksgs and armour from the game would be splendid too.

1000 people watching a GM tourney? Wow

LastAngel4 and Gnomedog were always a blast to be around back then, but damn the clan hops were real.

    OT:

    1. When and why did you start playing Ghost Mode?
Shortly after I started to play CF in 2009 because I thought the mode was so unique. Don't really remember a lot of first days playing, but I made some great friends.

    2. Has the Ghost Mode scene changed since then? If yes, how so?
The GM scene has changed a little with the coming of the VIPs and people seem to have a lot of ego (not new), but with no pride in their gameplay. Also the community has no cohesiveness anymore. I remember back in 2010 when a big clan would come into a pub it'd be lit and it was a hobby of mine to always try to be on the opposite team as the best people in the room (usually pans).

    3. What was your favourite clan that you were part of?
When I say that I've been in a ton of clans I really mean it cause I was a huge clan hopper and I've forgotten tons of clans that I've been in, but I really enjoyed being in Lasthope and Menace.

    4. Who were some players you looked up to when you started playing? Do you still play with them?
I really used to look up to SaintMalice back in the day along with Ozzy and whoisami later on.

    5. Who is the best player you've played with, and played against?
With: Probably Blackninja and Blind when he actually played CF

Against: I'd say Bad or Night

    6. Who is your favourite player? (Could be same as #4 and #5)
My favorite players would probably be Black, Nelson, Stawp and probably the late great Gnomedog.

    7. What was your favourite memory of this mode?
My favorite memory would be when I used to clan hop a bunch and just hang out with friends when GM and CF were popular. I liked the freedom of just 1v1ing people and getting into their clans.

    8. What was your highest BL and GR score in a pub?
Not sure I never really cared but I know I've gotten above 60 on both sides.

    9. What were your most impressive BL and GR scores in a clan war(not necessarily highest)? Who was it against?
Would have to look through SS, may edit and post this later.

    10. What would be the ideal Ghost Mode community in your opinion?
I may just be nostalgic, but I think the best GM community was back in 2010-13. I'd say we need steady competition to push us while still having fun with each other. I think that clan beef is stupid, clans are for friends to connect. Also I think we should have pride in our gameplay, not ego.
  • 1. When and why did you start playing Ghost Mode?

Probably mid 2010 for fun, took it more seriously later on when I met a bunch of good ghostmoders

    2. Has the Ghost Mode scene changed since then? If yes, how so?

Obviously. Honestly I remember when the m12s was frowned upon. Also when the m4 patriot came out and we all saw the reload, that was thought to be OP and insanely fast.... Or the spring m4, that was the dream m4 back then. Now its a bunch of VIPs and chars who reload like Usain Bolt and kick like friggen Pacquiao.. Kinda sad to see really.

    3. What was your favourite clan that you were part of?

Honestly I've never really had a "favorite" clan. Its only ever been whichever one is most active and has a live teamspeak so I could chill on with music and whatnot. Always enjoyed talking to the community more than sitting in one clan because of a name.

    4. Who were some players you looked up to when you started playing? Do you still play with them?

Honestly who knows, anyone who was big back in the day. When you joined a room and saw someone top fragging, I mean thatd be the person i'd spectate, and just sit there in awe of how good they were. Guess over time you start learning the ways and then it just gets easier and easier.

    5. Who is the best player you've played with, and played against?

Hard to say... The top aversion guys were hella fun to play against, or with. Anyone who fits in most known players top 10 lists would be always a blast to play around. I remember Banned dropping a 20 bomb on one team I was on for a tourney and that got us out, was pretty salty about that one, but what can I say he was pretty friggen good.

    6. Who is your favourite player? (Could be same as #4 and #5)

Can't put it on one player. Has to be the old crew. Bird, Crude, QuietSnipa, both DarkVengance's (always mixed them up.) and of course Trent! Really whoever was on teamspeak and on crossfire at the same time. Shoutout to Etherion, Exertus and Aversion guys, I mean you're all awesome to play with...

    7. What was your favourite memory of this mode?

The learning process. When you start off like **** and thinking literally every kid who pinpoints you cheats, and then learning what the hell BD is and how to actually hop. Can't forget tourneys either. I LOVE the competition. The silent roasts, the nerves etc. Nothing beats facing an amazing team in a tournament. Would be fun having a perm ares axe that's for sure...........

    8. What was your highest BL and GR score in a pub?

Both 60+, lost all my old / highscore screenshots when my computer decided to crash.

    9. What were your most impressive BL and GR scores in a clan war(not necessarily highest)? Who was it against?

I just remember a moment in GR when I dropped a 40-0 bomb and I forget who from Aversion joins in and literally made it their goal to get a death on me. After that I was a camping **** and sat in B vents praying I dont die. Needless to say I got killed :( rip ((and no it wasn't against 8 egys with no bd who didn't know how to bhop there was some pretty competent players on BL lol.))

    10. What would be the ideal Ghost Mode community in your opinion?

One that's alive. Discords changing that right now, and its really nice to see. We're having a hell of a lot of PUGs right now, everyones constantly online chatting or listening to music. Really nice to bring the community together. All we need is just more people on and thats it. Also one with less ego. The ego train is so insane in this mode, probably the biggest egos on CF sit in ghostmode. It makes it WAY too much fun to troll but if its an ideal community then some of that has to go. Of course we need some left because its who we are as ghostmoders lol... Probably also a way to remove macro hoppers. Now a days you see so many kids use it. A month ago they were complete **** at BL but now they're hopping up A ramps and friggen jumping over GR's like its nobodys business. It'd be nice to have a guaranteed legit player base.

Maybe I'll add more but that's all I got for now, also gotta get this Windows 10 upgrade started
  • 2. Has the Ghost Mode scene changed since then? If yes, how so?

back when i started there were actually good players who realized how easy gm is with zp. nowadays just a bunch of cancer who get mad you when you complain about vips or shotguns that are one hit and have 14 shots/clip lmao bd used to be for "noobs". now not even m4 vip, m14 silence or vip kukri op enuff to complain about without people thinkin you in a bad mood or egoing out :)

btw this whole thread is tl;dr for me just came to read judgesims post since i heard my name was in it
  • Very n1 thread, so lets take a shot at this:

    1. I started playing ghost mode in early 2010 because there were 2 people in my clan that were really good and I liked to follow them around. They eventually led me to ghost mode which confused the hell outta me at the time.

    2. The ghost mode scene has changed drastically since then. No offense to the current scene whatsoever, but players relied purely on skill back then and not VIP's, armor, etc. The ghost mode scene was also a lot more alive back then, to the point where every lobby you joined always had 2 or 3 extremely solid players, and taking frags and doing well all the time was an intense challenge.

    3. There's actually been 2 clans that I've loved being apart of in my time on Crossfire. The first one is *TheRivals- which is where I met the 2 players that got me into ghost mode. The second one is Etherion because it's the first clan I've cared so much about since *TheRivals-, so much to the point where I throw hissy fits if players I don't like are being considered to join or do join (apologies to Deprive for pulling that on you). Shoutouts to GM4LYF for being the clan that got me into competitive ghost mode, I also had a lot of fun there.

    4. When I started playing the 2 players that I looked up to were *LegitSota- and *EpicSota- and they also happened to be the leaders of *TheRivals- at the time. Honestly speaking I thought they were the greatest players ever when I started playing with them and I think they would be considered top level players if they actually took the mode super seriously. Unfortunately they were just pub stars, so nobody that I know of today knew of them or got to play with them which saddens me. I don't play with them today because they quit somewhere in late 2011 but I wish they still did, I still think about what it would be like to play with them again to this day.

    5. The best player I've had the privilege of playing with is without a doubt .*_]-Z-[_*., his game sense and strategic play is stunning, and he has the technical skill to follow through on anything he wants to do. He has also taught me so many important things about the game that developed my game play tremendously. The best player I've ever played against is probably Banned. As a GR it is so fricking hard to get in on him, and even if you manage to close a gap between him, his pinpointing is next level and he will likely mess you up when he is aware you are near. Also Banned was a person I liked to watch in game on BL, the way he played was a second source of learning (the other being watching videos of .*_]-Z-[_*.) and when I had to vs his BL, it was also a scary experience.

    6. My favorite players would include: .*_]-Z-[_*. (for being my strongest teacher and role model), Oblivion (for being my first friend in competitive ghost mode and helping me since my return), and *LegitSota- and *EpicSota- (for being my first role models and getting me into the mode).

    7. My favorite memory would obviously be winning MOTG 2016. The body high I got right after winning was amazing, and it made me more happy than I've ever been while playing on Crossfire.

    8. My best BL score is 81-3, and my best GR score is 64-6.

    9. My memory for clan war scores isn't that great, but I know I haven't gotten any scores that would be deemed 'spectacular'. I know on GR I've played super good against Feisty? in the past, and on BL I've played super good against Exertus in the past. Again nothing amazing, but still keeping them at bay and making 3v1 and 4v1 plays.

    10. Honestly with a couple exceptions (karambits and MG's) I couldn't care less what people use in ghost mode pubs. But for the ideal community I'd like about 10 solid clans with about 30-40 members that all like to play competitively against each other. I'd like a community that isn't full of trash talking and hate towards each other, but rather have a community that everybody gets along in and is welcoming towards the newer players so that it will always be growing. Because honestly some of the greatest people I've ever had the pleasure of talking to have come from the ghost mode community, but at the same time, there's been so much hate and ego lately that even I have started to adapt a similar personality to it. It is the worst thing to have to deal with hate, and a big strong community without it would be amazing.
